LIFE HISTORY of Troides helena cerberus (Common Birdwing)
Late stage of the 1st instar. The caterpillar grows quickly as it eats, and the pink saddle mark can be clearly seen. The caterpillar feeds mainly on the younger shoots of the A tagala leaves, sometimes eating the tips of the young stems. |

After moulting, the 2nd instar caterpillar rests for about a day before continuing with its feeding. The caterpillar measures about 15mm at this stage. | ![]() |
