The
Striped Black Crow has velvety brown wings above and the forewing is usually
unmarked. The hindwing has a series of white submarginal spots and a corresponding
row of whitish submarginal streaks. The dorsum of the forewing is curved
in the male, but is straight in the female of this species.
The butterfly is often encountered
feeding on flowering trees in the forest reserves in Singapore. At other
times, they are rarely encountered, except singly, usually flying at treetop
level.
The species is believed to be
distasteful to birds and is a model for some Papilionidae species and even some day-flying moths in Malaysia. |
