| Catopsilia pomona pomona (Lemon
Emigrant) |
The
Lemon Emigrant is represented by at least 6 different 'forms' in the region
- the 'crocale' forms with the antennae black above and the 'pomona'
forms with the antennae red above.
The butterfly is fast on the wing, and is a strong flyer. It is found in urban areas as well as the nature reserves. The host plant, Cassia spp, is a common roadside tree in Singapore. Occasionally, the species is observed in abundance, almost in a migratory flight around the island. This male, pictured here, has narrow black markings on the forewings above, and unmarked on the undersides. Here, it rests amongst the leaves of its host plant before taking flight again. |
