The
Orange Emigrant is often encountered in the company of its close cousin,
the Lemon Emigrant (Catopsilia pomona pomona). Both species
are urban butterflies in Singapore and are found in gardens and parks.
Having a strong and erratic flight, the butterfly is not easy to capture,
except when it is feeding. Here it was photographed at Lantana
blossoms in the West Coast Park. The butterfly has white forewings
with black borders above, and deep orange-yellow hindwings. The underside
is also orange-yellow with spots and markings.
The caterpillar of the Orange
Emigrant has been found on Cassia fistula and Cassia biflora
- both of which are common roadside trees in Singapore. |
