Baptism of the Holy Ghost (the type) and with fire (the antitype)

Matthew 3:7-12

7 ¶But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees{1} come to his baptism{2} , he said unto them, O generation of vipers{3} , who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come{4} ?

8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance{5} :

9 And think not to say within yourselves{6} , We have Abraham to [our] father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up{7} children unto Abraham.

10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees{8} : therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire{9} .

11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance{10} : but he that cometh after me is mightier than I{11} , whose shoes I am not worthy to bear{12} : he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost{13} , and [with] fire{14} :

12 Whose fan [is] in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.{15}

This account depicts the 2nd Coming of Christ. At the 2nd Coming Jesus will baptize by fire
unto glorification. The baptism of water unto repentance is the type. The baptism by fire unto
glorification is the antitype. John's baptism was actually acting out the baptism of fire at the
2nd Coming of Christ!

What are Types and Antitypes?

Glimpses of the Resurrection

The Burning Bush: Type of the Resurrection (Exodus 3:1-6)

Interpretation:

The Pharisees believed that the oral tradition is just as important as the Torah.
The Sadducees did not believe in the oral tradition and believed in a strictly literal
interpretation of the Torah.

Interpretation:

The baptism of water unto repentance is the type. The baptism of fire unto glorification
is the antitype.

Interpretation:

Note the other places the term "viper" was used.
Matthew 3:7
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism,
he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the
wrath to come?
Matthew 12:34  O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things?
for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Matthew 23:33  Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

Luke 3:7  Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of
vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Interpretation:

The wrath to come begins on the Day of the Lord when the wicked are judged.

Matthew 3:7  ¶But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to
his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee
from the wrath to come?

Luke 3:7  Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers,
who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

1 Thessalonians 1:10  And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from
the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

Jesus delivers us from the wrath to come.

Interpretation:

The seed comes first, then the fruit. So, seed is the type. Fruit is the antitype. Just
as John challenged the Pharisees, he is challenging us today asking,"Where is your fruit?"
If we are truly children of God, we will produce fruit! A tree that does not produce fruit is
either dying or dead. Our fruit at the 2nd Coming is the same as the works tried by fire
mentioned in 1 Cor 3:12.

Interpretation:

"Saying within yourself" is the type because it is saying something in secret.

Interpretation:

"Raise up" is the antitype and is a reference to the resurrection. Many today have
the same attitude as the Pharisees and Sadducees did in John the Baptist's day.
They think that being Abraham's seed, an heir according to the promise, is the
only justification they need before God to escape the wrath to come. But John
says we must produce fruit

Interpretation:

"Root" is the type because roots are hidden under the ground.

Interpretation:

Notice that those who do not produce fruit are cut down and cast into the fire. Fruit is
antitypical because it is what is gathered at the harvest and the final harvest occurs
at the 2nd Coming of Christ.

Interpretation:

Baptizing with water unto repentance is the type. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is the antitype.
Just as John indeed baptized with water unto repentance. So Jesus will indeed baptize us with
fire at his 2nd Coming.

Interpretation:

Why is Jesus mightier than John the Baptist. Because Jesus will baptize with fire, not water. See Luke 12:49-53

Interpretation:

Several things in these passages tie this to the account of the burning bush.
For instance, "take off your shoes" in Ex 3 corresponds to shoes being loosed
in Mat 3. The fire in the bush in Exodus 3 corresponds to the baptism of fire in
Mat 3. In fact, Matthew 3:7-12 was one of the keys for unlocking the interpretation
of Moses and the burning bush in Exodus 3. Praise the Lord for his word!

Interpretation:

Baptizing with water unto repentance is the type. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is the antitype.

Interpretation:

First comes the baptism of the Holy Ghost (the inner baptism of fire: the type ) then the
baptism of fire (outward baptism of fire at the 2nd Coming: the antitype)

Interpretation:

The righteous are the wheat taken into the garner. The wicked are the chaff that are consumed by fire at Christ's return.
