I have included some names that are not directly linked to myself, but that may help someone else. They will be great, great uncles, aunts etc.


JOHN ADAM CULPETZER b. 1750, Germany, was a farmer, surveyor, and a mason plus more. July 27, 1776 he married SARAH RHOADS in Rhoadestowne, PA. Sarah was born 1756 in Germany, the daughter of Michael & Sarah Rhoades who were married in Germany.

JOHN ADAM CULPETZER (German spelling--Johann Kaulbetzer, Johann pronounced Yo'han) came to America, alone, in 1767 on the ship "Minerva." John was seventeen. He settled near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Living in this industrial area gave him the opportunity to make a good life for himself. He worked on farms, learned the surveying trade, masonery and many more. Our's was a growing country and young workers were in demand.

I know of one son, ADAM JOHN CULPETZER.
ADAM JOHN CULPETZER b. 1777 in East Buffaloe, Pa., married ESTHER ROTE on Feb. 8, 1804.

ADAM & ESTHER lived with his parents for a time, on the property they owned in East Buffaloe Township, Pa. In 1809, John and Sarah sold this porperty to Adam for a small sum, with the condition he and Sarah could live with them their remaining days. County lines were changed in 1813 for Northumberland county.....John was now 57. Their children were William b. 1779, Nicholas b. 1781, George b. 1784, Minervia b. 1786, Peter b. 1788, Annie b. 1790 m. Abraham mitchell, Sarah b. 1793, Jacob b. 1796, Henry b. 1800 m. Elizabeth, John b. 1802 m Catherine Arnold 1835, David Luman b. 1824. All were born in E. Buffalo Township, Pennsylvania.

DAVID LUMAN CULPETZER.

MARGARET KNEPP b. 1796, d. 1867 buried N. of Colon, Mich. (I found the grave site) ----husband unknown----,she came from Holland to Penn. I only know of one child at this time, Hanna.

HANNA KNEPP, was born in 1829 and died in 1912. She was buried N of Colon, Mich. HANNA married DAVID LUMAN CULPETZER.

DAVID LUMAN CULPETZER b. 1824 at Northumberland County, Pa. Married HANNA KNEPP

DAVID AND HANNA CULPETZER settled in Pennsylvania, near Gettysburg. They lived near enough to the battlefield that they could hear the explosions of the cannons and the muzzle-loading rifles, during the Civil War. After the war ended in the fall of 1865, they moved to Michigan. They came on the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad Line. Here they settled near Burr Oak, Michigan. The Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad was new at that time. Their Children were all born in Pennsylvania.

The children of David and Hanna were: Charles, Annie, William, Ruben, David, Adam, Charlie, Margaret, Ida, George and James all keeping the spelling of Culpetzer. There was also SAMUEL (my grandfather) who changed the spelling to COLPETSIR

Adam Culpetzer married Charlotte Corkins. Among their children were Cyrus, 1874-1950, and Luman. Luman changed the spelling of the name to Colpetzer. He married Mary C. Erskin. Together they had two daughters, Nellie Rosa Colpetzer, b. 1916, and Mary Eleanor Colpetzer, b. 1919. SAMUEL COLPETSIR b. 1863, married ALICE EVANS. Samuel died Oct. 4, 1946 and is buried in Bronson Cemetary, Bronson Mich. He was a watchman for years in Douglas plant in Bronson.

The children of Samuel and Alice were: Ethel, Clifford, Alma, Raymond, Marie, Viola, Orval, Clyde, Edna, and Lloyd.

Clifford1899-1982 married Charlotte Richardson
Alma 1901-1995 married 1. ?. Garberick, 2. ?. Clark, 3. Glen Ashbrook
Raymond died at 2 years of age
Marie 1904-1979 married Frank Grindle
Viola 1905-1974 married Leon Boyd
Orval 1909-? married ?
Clyde 1908-1986 married Alice ?
Edna 1911-1986 married Clarence Siler
Lloyd 1915-1989 married ?
Samuel and Alice were divorced and Alice remarried to a man named Boyd. I don't know the first name.
Of these children Edna is my mother so we will go from there.

EDNA SILER b 1911 married CLARENCE OKLEY SILER b. 1902, in June of 1935. Clarence was a hatchery man the first part of their marriage and later was a farmer. He retired from the farm and started making lawn furniture of which he retired 3 times before his death on Oct 2, 1985.

The children of Clarence and Edna Siler were:
Patricia Joan b. 1940 married 1. Neal Herl-2. George McCracken,
3. Darel Donbrock - 4. Allen Riddle
Samuel Devonne Siler b. 1941 married Barbara Fales


The end of the ancestors of Patricia Riddle Next will be the decendents up to now.
