Backstreet Secrets

CHAPTER 6

Just then, the lights went out in the room. Cindy, who was still holding Brian's hand, jumped in his arms. She threw her arms around his neck and buried her face in his shoulder. Brian had the reflex to wrap his arms around her waist. She blushed, but he couldn't see it because it was dark. She shyly stepped back. "Sorry," she whispered.

"No problem." He said, slowly letting his arms slide away from her.

"What's going on?" Nick asked.

"Probably just a power outage." Lauren said.

"Let's get out of here. It's not dark out yet, we'll have lights in a room where there are windows."

"Uh, guys..." Cindy said. "The door won't open."

"Please Cindy, stop kidding us. Open the door." Rachel said.

"I'm telling you, it won't open!"

"Alright, I'll try." Rachel got up and went to the door. She suppressed a few bad words when she hit her toe on the leg of the table. She tried to find the door knob in the dark, only to realize it was indeed locked when she finally found it.

"It can't be locked!" Lauren said. "None of our doors have a lock except the front door. Hell, even our bathroom doors don't have locks!"

"Wait, no." Rachel said. "It's not locked. Just stuck."

"It doesn't tell us how to get outta here." AJ pointed out.

"Maybe we should try to break the door open." Karen suggested.

"It's worth a try." Kevin said. "Allow me."

He tried to open it with his shoulder, then he kicked it. The door didn't open. Brian helped him, but it didn't work either.

"Looks like we're stuck in here." Nick said. "There's gotta be something to do."

"Hmm, I think there is a vent behind the fridge. Maybe someone should get out that way and get help to open the door." Lauren said. "Could someone help me move the fridge?"

"I will." Rachel and AJ said at the same time. Both went to help Lauren move the fridge. It wasn't an easy process since they it was dark in the room and they didn't want the appliance to tip over. They finally got it out of the way. Lauren bend down and touched the vent, measuring its size.

"Well, it's large enough for everyone to get in. It might be tight for some of us, but if someone can't fit in, he or she will have to stay here until we come back with someone to open the door."
