Backstreet Secrets

CHAPTER 10

Lauren put a CD in the CD player while Cindy got the food out of the fridge. She pressed 'play' and music filled the room.

"What's the CD Lauren?" Nick asked her.

"Toni Braxton. It's Secrets."

"Oh, cool. I've never listened to it before."

"That's because you haven't been around Lauren for the last two weeks," Cindy said. "That's all she listens to these days."

"When I get a new CD I listen to it all day long until I get a new one. When I do, I listen to the new one all day long until I get another one. And so on. So I guess in a week, I'll be listening to Backstreet's Back 24/7."

"And when she'll get fed up of it, she'll buy another CD to drive us crazy." Cindy said.

Brian smiled. "You'll never get tired of listening to Backstreet's Back."

"Nice ego." Cindy joked.

"Hey, thanks."

The girls went on to cook the food while Brian was trying to explain to Nick the rules of the new game Cindy and him had found. Cindy and Lauren were singing Un-Break My Heart along with the CD.

"See," Brian explained. "You have to make a sequence of numbers all the same color. Like one to thirteen in red..."

"And these smily faces?"

"They can replace any number you might need and that you don't have."

"Like a spare?"

"Yeah, sort of... Hmm, it smells good in there." Brian looked over on the other side of the counter, where was the kitchen.

"Tell me about it. I'm starving, this only makes it worse." Nick said. "Hey, the girls sing well, don't you think?"

"Hey, Cindy, Lauren!" Brian called out. "Nice voices. You girls are good singers."

Lauren let out a fake laugh. "Please. We're so not."

Nick got up and walked around the counter. "We're serious. Can't you take our word seriously? We're singers ourselves, we know what we're talking about."

"What are you suggesting? That we start our own band?" Cindy joked.

"Why not?" Brian said, leaning against the counter.
