Backstreet Secrets

CHAPTER 9

They had been laying there for about 30 minutes without talking, when Lauren looked at Nick.

"Nick, you know what?"

"Hummm?" He whispered. He was half asleep.

"You should take off those sunglasses. You're gonna look like a raccoon."

"Earlier it was a lobster look, and now I'm gonna look like a raccoon."

"Believe me, I did it once. It doesn't look good. Your face's all tanned but you're white around the eyes."

He turned around and laid on his stomach, took off the sunglasses. He crossed his arms and buried his face in them.

Lauren sighed. "Gee, you're not much of a talker today."

"Nuh-huh."

"And I am supposed to be the tired one!"

"Hmmm..."

"We'll see about that." She snickered.

She got up and went inside the cabin where was a bunch of stuff... Surely she'd found there what she was looking for.

"Ha-ha. Here it is. Now we'll see who's gonna sleep."

She came back outside. Nick's head was still in his arms and he had no clue what Lauren was doing. She took the bucket she'd found in the cabin and plunged it in the sea. She pulled it out half full of freezing water and brought it back above Nick.

"And that's for throwing me in the water earlier."

"What?" He said, turning around just in time to get the water square in the face.

"What the- Lauren!!!" He screamed, getting up.

She tried to run away from him, but her chances weren't good as they were on the boat. He caught her from behind, swung his arms around her and spun her around. She tried to get free from his hold, but he was much stronger then her. They were both laughing like crazy. Nick pinned Lauren to the edge of the boat and then began to lift her up.

"No, Nick, please." Her tone was serious and he could tell she wasn't playing anymore. "The water's deep here. It could be dangerous."

"It's not that deep. But it's dangerous anyways." He said, putting her down. "I owe you one though."

Lauren replaced her hair, which was falling on her face, and looked at the sea. Something caught her eyes and she squinted to get a better view.

"Nick, are there sharks around here?"

"No. There are sharks in some places in the Gulf of Mexico, but no in this area of the Gulf. It's way too shallow."

"Then what's that?" She asked, pointing at the unidentified gray shape.

"It looks like a shark's fin, but it can't be it. That's impossible. Only sick sharks would come in this kind of water."

"Aren't sick sharks attacking humans?"

"Stop it, you're starting to freak me out. It's not a shark, and especially not a sick one."

"Then how comes it's coming right at us?"
