CHAPTER 10
"Oh God, you're right, it's coming at us." Nick said. "Alright, as long as we're on the boat, we're safe. We'll bring the anchor back up and leave. It might follow us for a while but I don't think it's gonna follow us all the way to the shore."
"Ok, I'll get the anchor, you start the boat."
Lauren went to the back of the boat, pulling on the cord to get the anchor out of the water. The shark was now only twenty feet away from the boat, and swimming fast.
"Nick! The anchor won't come up!!!"
Nick turned around just as the shark hit the boat. He stumbled at the shock and fell in a seat next to him. He looked at Lauren and almost died from fear. He saw his friend stumble the way he did after the shark's attack, but Lauren was near the side of the boat. She screamed as she hit her head on the edge, and then she fell in the water, unconscious.
'Oh my God, she's gonna die,' Nick thought. 'Either from drowning or being eaten by that shark.'
All that happened afterward seemed to go extremely slow to Nick's eyes, but it went very quickly. His mind was racing and a thousand thoughts were flying throught his head. He had to dive in the water and get her back to the surface.
He dismissed the way his brain reminded him that he could get killed in the process. He ran to the place were Lauren had fallen down, took a deep breath, and dived.
Thankfully he'd been right earlier when he had claimed that the water wasn't deep. It was also quite clear and he was able to see Lauren the second he dived in. Blood was coming out of her forehead, at the place she hit before falling down. Blood. There's not a better way to excite a shark, he realized.
And also, where was that damn shark? He couldn't have just disappeared. His questions were answered when he looked at his right and saw the huge gray thing coming right at them. He picked up Lauren in his arms and swam back to the surface as quick as possible.
He could feel the shark's presence by his side as he pushed Lauren on the boat. 'Please don't bite', was all he could think about. He saw the water turning red around him and he started to freak out. He didn't feel anything, it was probably Lauren who had been bitten. Only her legs remained in the water, so that's probably were the shark bit her. Nick prayed that he could get Lauren and him both out of the water before another one of the shark's attacks.
