First off, the default colors are awful. type 'help color'.
then type 'color list'. then put every one of those words into this sentence:
'color black white. that will make everything legible.
you can, of course, pick other colors. Just don't get frustrated with
the starting colors. someone with very BAD taste set the default.
-
Read the rules. Read the help files. Read the signs.
Try to figure out stuff for yourself.
-
If this doesn't work, go ahead and ask for help. Ask NICELY.
Be POLITE. believe me, it's very helpful in getting help.
-
Don't ask the same question over and over again. If you
get no response after awhile, try rephrasing it, and asking one more time.
but don't keep at it. people will generally only answer if they know,
if they can hear you, and if they're not too busy. If you think a particular
person might know the answer, try sending them a 'tell' (that's a personal
message). if they don't answer DON'T ask again. Ask someone else.

Imms are immortals. people who have received certain privileges
beyond us mortals. They've been there a long time, they have more often
than not helped program new areas for us to play in, and they deserve
a certain amount of respect. Don't mouth off to immortals, because a)
it will get you nowhere, except maybe kicked off, b) they deserve better
(usually), c) it's not polite, and d) you look foolish picking a fight
with a veteran.
-
Try not to ask immortals questions that regular mortals
could answer. I'm not suggesting not talking to the imms at all, but remember:
most of the questions you can think of when you start, the imms have answered
many, many times.
-
when picking a character, remember: Giants are the easiest
to play, but they don't get as much respect for the same reason.
-
Give yourself a good name. names like 'gfda' or 'DiCaprio'
aren't usually apprectiated, and this will reflect how people react to
you.
-
Be patient with other people and with yourself. One often
gets too hung up on certain items, or levelling as quickly as possible.
Figure out why you're playing. Are you there to get your Giant Evil Warrior
up to level 51 by next week, or are you there to communicate with other
people, and have fun with them? Remember your priorities.
-
go ahead and joke around in the gossip channel (the one
everyone can hear), but try to gage your level of spaminess. It's something
I'm still trying to learn. there's a fine line between amusing everyone,
and getting on everyone's nerves.
-
Be aware. Don't do things like come into a room where
people are standing and pick up all the equipment and stuff lying on the
ground, or kill the half-dead monster next to a resting player. SAY something.
don't get grabby.
well, I hope that didn't scare you off. It's fun, believe me. There are more
tips to come, I just have to think of them.
