"In accordance with the divine teachings in this glorious dispensation we should not belittle anyone and call him ignorant, saying: `You know not, but I know'. Rather, we should look upon others with respect, and when attempting to explain and demonstrate, we should speak as if we are investigating the truth, saying: `Here these things are before us. Let us investigate to determine where and in what form the truth can be found.' The teacher should not consider himself as learned and others ignorant. Such a thought breedeth pride, and pride is not conducive to influence. The teacher should not see in himself any superiority; he should speak with the utmost kindliness, lowliness and humility, for such speech exerteth influence and educateth the souls." --'Abdu'l-Bahá: Selections, page 30

  1. Collage Artists:

*The Studio of Jonathan Talbot  This is an incredible site! If you love collages I encourage you to visit and take a look at all the the wonderful pieces Mr. Talbot has created. I have taken one of the workshops Mr. Talbot teaches and I recommend them for anyone interested in collage. I learned about new techniques, tools, art supplies, and so much more.

The Artist's Statement: "Can we face our technological future without dreams? I think not. But the old ideals will no longer serve. I believe that the arts will continue to provide us with new insights into the human condition. As they have in the past, these insights will empower us to meet the challenges of the future.

At present our national consciousness wanders in a no-man's land. Guided by outdated traditions perpetuated by our own wishful thinking, we find ourselves overwhelmed by the complex technology which surrounds us. The pastoral dream we have inherited can no longer shelter us in a world where the unwelcome predictions of Malthus, Huxley, and Orwell threaten to become real.

We must bring together high-tech reality and pastoral ideal and form a new foundation for our aspirations. We must find new paths through the increasingly complex mazes which are the results of advancing technology. We must imagine new freedoms in response to new constraints and new hopes in response to new fears. We must weave the threads of the past into new patterns for the fabric of the future. We must create new dreams." --Jonathan Talbot, 1996

    * Joseph Cornell  WebMuseum, Paris: "Cornell, Joseph (1903-72). American sculptor, one of the pioneers and most celebrated exponents of assemblage. He had no formal training in art and his most characteristic works are his highly distinctive `boxes'. These are simple boxes, usually glass-fronted, in which he arranged surprising collections of photographs or Victorian bric-à-brac in a way that has been said to combine the formal austerity of Constructivism with the lively fantasy of Surrealism." (The thumbnails do not do these pieces justice - for further study, please click on them and patiently wait for the large images to download.)

    * CollageArt.Org This reference site is dedicated to the art of collage and has extensive lists of: links to collage sites, exhibitions, books, and workshops.

    * Carole Finer "Carole Finer is an artist living in London UK and teaching at a leading London art school. Her interests include music especially the banjo." Her pieces are composed of blocks of color and text, the thumbnails remind me of stained glass panels, but up close they are easily seen to be fragments of paper and cellophane.
