"Why should we all use our creative power . . . ? Because there is nothing that makes people so generous, joyful, lively, bold and compassionate, so indifferent to fighting and the accumulation of objects and money." --Brenda Ueland

  1. Bio & Stuff

Thank you for your interest in me and my homepages. I have a recent photo posted now. I am usually not as glamorous as this.

I hope that you can tell a little about my interests from the content of my site, but here are some other things that may interest you:

I was born in New York City, New York, over 40 years ago. I like it here and don't really want to live anywhere else, although I do hope to eventually travel around the world a bit. I am a singer, songwriter, artist, mom, wife... you get the picture. I grew up on Long Island, and you can click here to see photos from the town where I lived until I was 17. And, here are a couple of cute photos of me and my friend from Elementary School through High School, Steven, and my brother Chris. We are strolling through Central Park circa 1973. You can see some of my collages scattered around the site, but I have a lot of them up at my husband Derrick's Gallery site.

Derrick, is an artist and independent filmmaker, and we have been married since 1981. A selection of his oil paintings is up at the Gallery 1999 site. He recently completed the film "Tribeca Nights". We have two terrific, creative, daughters, Meghann and Claire.

In addition to my visual art work, I am currently working on a full-length CD of Bahá'í Prayers, Tablets, and songs based on Bahá'í themes. In order to raise money for this project (which involves many hours of studio time,) I have begun selling an a capella "sample CD" for $10.00 (USD) called Daily Intonation. This CD contains my setting of 95 Alláh'u'abhás (called Lullaby for Roya) and The Tablet of Ahmad. Go to my Daily Intonation page to read about it and to order it. Thanks for your support.

If you would like to hear two other a capella songs dedicated to the women martyrs, Mona's Song and O Carmel, they are featured on the newly re-released CD version of The Laughter of Angels a fund-raising CD for the Solomon R.G. Hilton Bahá'í School which is being sold online at Special-Ideas.com. I have a little more about these songs on my Activities & Projects page.

  2. Favorite Things & Links

    * My favorite television programs are: Eastenders, a soap opera from England set in Walford, a fictional town in the East End of London. (In America we are about 5 years behind in the storyline, but I do not care--it's really great.) I am currently obsessed with Life On Mars which follows the events in the life of Sam Tyler a policeman in the UK who has traveled back in time to 1973 due to an auto accident. I also love the show Due South which was cancelled after only 3 years, but we have all the episodes on DVD now. The stories revolve around a Canadian mountie, Benton Frasier, who has relocated to Chicago (with his deaf-lip-reading wolf, Diefenbaker) to hunt down the killer of his father, and he becomes friends with a Chicago police officer. The music is FANTASTIC! I can't say enough about Due South. In the "unscripted television" genre I love The Amazing Race. There are a few more, but I don't want to burden you with a long list.

    * I love music and especially singer/songwiters. I put Harry Nilsson right up there in my top 5 list, I feel his general musical style and his wonderful melodies really influenced many of my pieces. I also enjoy Francis Cabrel (although I don't always know what I am singing as it is all in French *smile*), I also love Antonio Carlos Jobim and the sound of Brazil and wish I could sing in Portugese, Carly Simon, Paul Simon, Dory Previn and Loudon Wainwright III. They are the storytellers! A couple of years ago I bought the "Dreamland" CD of Madeleine Peyroux, I like her sound very much and I am wearing out the CD. Hope she releases another one soon. She has a deep Billie Holiday quality to her sound, but she has a contemporary edge I like.
