About Jason Kuek Email: kueksiong@yahoo.com Greetings, visitors. My name is Jason Kuek.Click here for self portrait. I am the creator and manager of this WebPages. The reason why I included this small introduction is because I felt that it was only appropriate for me to inform my interested visitors about my background. I have always been fascinated with the ever changing and evolving world of art. Since when I was a child, I would always find myself drawing and scribbling on any medium. Be it on the dining table, the wall, paper, or even on the floor. I do not know exactly how I developed this interest, however, upon realizing my growing love for art; I have committed myself to always strive to improve my artistic talents. Hence, I have enrolled in various art classes since elementary school. Through out the years, a considerable amount of achievements and successes in art competitions have testified about my artistic abilities. Nevertheless, I am still learning, and have not brought forth my true potentials yet. Previously, I won the first prize for the Pentel Children's Art Competition in 1995. Later, obtaining a bronze medal for the Tokyo's International Children's Art Competition. This was followed by a short string of successes in newspaper competitions; such as winning a restaurant voucher at KFC in the Leader Newspaper for rendering a picture of the Beatles with a tiger in black and white. Winning first prize for depicting a flood scene in poster colour in the "Minda Pelajar" newspaper, and others. Personally, I am more attracted to figure drawing. But this was not so at the beginning. I used to draw and paint many robot characters from the Transformers cartoon series, until a classmate commented that I am only capable of depicting mechanic robots. Since then, I began drawing many other subjects apart from robots. As time past by, I was drawn to the human figure from comics and other mass media. Portraying figures in various poses and expressions soon became very enjoyable and expressive in creativity for me. Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Jim Lee, Travis Charest, and Alex Ross are the artists that influenced me most. Cartoons, comics, animations, motion pictures, and novels also played a great part in shaping my artistic preferences and styles. But, most of all, The Lord is my greatest influence. Without Him, I can do nothing. Currently, I am studying a business course from Curtin University of Technology (Australia); majoring in marketing and management at Metropolitan College in Malaysia. Drawing and illustrating has become more of a hobby for me these days. Once every now and then, I get to do some freelance illustrations and graphic design work for other people. I sincerely hope that you have enjoyed viewing the artwork provided by me in KUEK GALLERY
