My Gift
There's something I've owned for such a long time
But someone to take it, I've yet to find.
I'd gladly let go, no more to be mine
But who will receive my gift?

What good is a gift if it's not received?
By the person who you were wanting to please.
Rejection can cause a gift-giver to grieve
And so I hold onto my gift.

This gift doesn't do me a slight bit of good
But it sould please someone I know that it could.
I see it can't have the effect that it should
If I don't let go of my gift.

The strange part is I want the same in reply.
A gift you can't borrow, rent, steal or buy.
Given to me by the one who takes mine.
I want to exchange my gift.

This present will last me the rest of my life.
I'll cling to it through all my hardships and strife.
It's the best gift that I'll give to my wife.
When I find her I'll give her my gift.

This gift was first given by God up above.
When He sent His Son. Could we thank Him enough?
Yes, friend, this gift that I speak of is love.
The love that I have is my gift.
