CHAPTER SIXTEEN - THE TWILIGHT ZONE

"Go on. Dial the number."
Maddy picked up the phone, but slammed it down after the first ring.
"I can't do this Veronica."
Veronica rolled her eyes. "Why not?"
"It's mean! Plus, I have made a complete fool out of myself for the last twenty minutes. I'm surprised they haven't called me
back by now! It's only rang a million times." Maddy brushed her hair out of her face. She was getting frustrated.
"Oh just stop it. Give me the phone." Veronica reached over and picked it up. She punched in the digits for the Hanson home
and let it ring. It rang. And rang. And rang. She sighed and hung it up. "No one is answering."
"Yeah that's cause they took the phone off of ring by now. Ugh, forget this. I'm going to go over there." Maddy stood up and
grabbed her purse.
"Can I come?"
"No, you can't come. You started this whole mess."
"I did not! Ike did at the stupid mall!" She put her hands on her hips.
Maddy just rolled her eyes. "I don't even know why I am doing this for you."
"Then don't do it! If you don't want my friendship, then I don't want yours!" Veronica glared at her.
"What? I never said that! I just don't understand this thing you having going on here. It's either you or him. What is that? A
bunch of crap, that's what it is."
Veronica dropped her mouth open. "Ok, that's it Maddy. I'm leaving."
Maddy laughed. "I drove you over here! How do you expect to get home?"
That just made Veronica even more frustrated. "Ugh! This is crazy." She rubbed her forehead. "Ok, ok. There's no need to
start a fight. I know, take me over there and I will do something about all this."
"What?"
Veronica sighed. "I'll say something to Ike." She looked at the ground. "This is not worth losing our friendship. I'm sorry alright.
I can get a little dramatic."
Maddy shook her head. "Yeah, you need an Oscar for this performance." She looked at the keys in her hand, then said, "Fine,
you can ride with me. Just don't start anything up at his house. It is a little late you know."
Veronica nodded and then went to grab her jacket. "Hey, isn't that where Joey is at tonight?" She yelled from the hallway.
"No, she's out with my mom remember?"
"Oh yeah." She walked back into the room. "Let's go."

"Im a dude, she's a dude, he's a dude, we're all dudes hey! I'm a dude, she's a dude, he's a dude, we're all dudes..." The
Hanson clan, plus Phoebe and Judy were watching "Good Burger" now. Judy had met the family, and they were all either
asleep, or around the house now. She was very excited about watching this movie though...hmm, I wonder why?
"This is so funky." Phoebe commented.
Taylor laughed. "Yeah but it's funny. Hey, Zac seems to like it." They both looked at Zac who was singing along to the "Dude"
song.
Judy was sitting in the middle of them, them being Isaac and Zac, on the other sofa. Phoebe and Taylor had the love seat.
"Do you like the movie?" Phoebe asked her.
"Oh yeah! Best movie I've ever seen." She giggled.
"I bet!" Phoebe just smiled at her. No wonder it was the best movie she'd ever seen.
She was smashed between her favorite band while watching it!
The lights were low in the room and all of a sudden a while light flashed into it.
"What was that?" Taylor asked. He got up and went over to the window.
"ALIENS!!!! RUN!!!" Zac yelled with a smirk on his face.
"Oh yeah, the mothership is calling for you." Isaac said laughing. Judy giggled along with him.
"It's not a mothership...but it is a car." He peered out the window trying to get a better look at who was driving it. "Oh wait!"
He looked again. "It's Maddy! And Veronica!"
Isaac jumped off the sofa. "What am I going to do! They must have come to kill me!"
Phoebe and Judy hopped up as well.
"Ike, be for real. They are just paying you a visit." Phoebe looked out the window. Judy just stood back with Zac.
"Ok, the doorbell should ring," The doorbell rang. "...right about now." Taylor finished his sentence.
"Isaac?"
Isaac ran to the stairs where Diana stood at the top. She was holding her book while she hand her hands on her hips.
"Who is at the door?" She asked.
"It's just Maddy."
"It's kind of late don't you think?"
"I know mom...but I had no idea she was coming over."
She sighed. "Well, alright then. Keep it down though." She turned and headed back to her room.
Isaac took a deep breath. "Ok, you guys just go sit back down." They all nodded and ran back into the living room.
Isaac braced himself, then swung the door open.

"Isaac, hi!" Maddy waved at him. Veronica just nodded.
"Hey Maddy." He looked at the both of them. "What are you two doing here?"
Veronica spoke up. "We need to talk to you." Maddy nodded at that.
"Well, alright then. Come in." He moved aside. He still couldn't get over the shock of seeing Veronica on his porch. He just
hoped this wasn't some evil plan that ended with some awful form of humiliation.
Isaac led them into the living room.
"Everyone, this is Maddy. I'm sure you already know that by the way...and this is Veronica." They both smiled at everyone.
"Oh and this is Judy. She is here from Tucson visiting Phoebe." He said that basically to Veronica. Maddy already knew.
Judy waved at them. They waved back.
"Ok, well let's go talk in my room."
Taylor waited until they had left to speak up.
"This is like the frigin twilight zone over here." He commented on the visual of Isaac, Maddy and Veronica all in the same room.
"Yeah really. I can see Maddy over here...but her? No way. They must be up to something." Phoebe just shook her head.
"Is she the one that knocked you all down?" Judy asked.
"Yep! That's the one." Taylor answered.
"Hmm, yeah this is weird."

Isaac pulled out some chairs for them and they all sat now in his room...ready to talk. "So, what do you need to talk to me
about?" He asked. He was feeling a little nervous.
"Well," Maddy began, "I think Veronica has some things to say first." She nudged her with her elbow.
Veronica took a breath and then smiled a little. "Yeah, I do. Ike, I'm really sorry about this whole deal with us. I acted like a
jerk to you and your brothers. Even though I don't like your music, I can see that you are a nice person...as well as Taylor and
Zac." She turned a little red and stared at her lap now.
"I would also like to say that I want to keep seeing you. I really enjoyed your company and your friendship." Maddy said.
Isaac was just in shock. He couldn't believe this.
"I don't even know what to say." He shook his head. "I for one, never expected you to apologize to me!" He laughed. Veronica
smiled.
"It took a lot, but it's the right thing to do."
He nodded and smiled back at her.
"And Maddy..." He blushed. "...I would love to keep seeing you too. I am really glad you didn't change your mind because of
this."
"I never wanted to. I had a great time! Why would I want that to end?" She smiled as well.
"Good point." He leaned over and gave her a hug.
"Well, now that this is all said and done, would you both like something to drink?"
Maddy shook her head 'no'. "I have to get home actually. My mom is out with Joey and they should be home any minute."
Veronica's eyes fell on his phone. "Hey, did you hear us calling you on the phone?" She asked.
"Um, no. We turned off the ring tonight because of the baby."
"Thank God you did!" Maddy exclaimed. "We called your house about a million times!"
Isaac laughed. "Hmm, I'm glad we took it off too." He stood up. "I'll walk you to the car." He held the door open and escorted
them out of the room.

"And then, the cashier turned into a big fat alien and ate all the customers waiting in line with their products." Zac leaned back
after he had finished his short horror story. They were killing time before Isaac came downstairs. Phoebe kind of stopped the
movie. She thought she would never hear the end of that dude song...it just keeps repeating itself over, and over, and over...
"That's like, not even scary." Judy commented.
"It is too!" Zac defended his own imagination.
Judy went to say something else, when they heard footsteps coming down the stairs.
They all scrambled back to their places on the sofa and love seat.
"Looks like he IS alive..." Taylor whispered to Phoebe when he heard Isaac at the front door.
"Yep!" She giggled a little. They heard Isaac open up the door and go outside. They all ran to the window to watch.
"Ok, he's walking them to the car..." Taylor was reporting the action from the window again. "He hugged Maddy and she gave
him a kiss, oh my..." He raised his eyebrows and smiled. "Veronica waved and got in the car. Ok, they started the car..."
"Taylor, you can stop now." Phoebe pulled him away from the window. "We all know what will happen next." She smiled.
Zac walked back over to Judy.
"What wasn't scary about my story?" He asked her.
"It was just, typical."
"It was not! I make up the best alien stories. Ike even likes them."
Judy just laughed. "Hey, just ask Phoebe. I'm a huge critic when it comes to stories."
She smiled and walked by him.
"Can we go get some drinks?" Phoebe asked Taylor.
"Yeah sure. I'll be there in a sec. I want to hear what happened."
"Ok cool."
Taylor went over to the front door and opened it as soon as Isaac made it to the porch. "Oh, spying on me?" Isaac grinned and
walked back inside.
"Well, what do you expect? That was way weird..."
"I know!" Isaac went into the living room with him.
"So, what happened?" Taylor asked.
"You'll never believe this but...Veronica actually apologized to me."
Taylor's mouth dropped open. "No way!"
"Yes way! But she still hates our music."
Taylor laughed at that. "At least she said she was sorry to you though."
"Yeah really. Oh and Maddy still wants to get together sometime."
"Alright man! That's great."
Isaac nodded. "I didn't think I liked her that much until I saw her again. She really is cool." He blushed a little.
"Well, I'm happy everything worked out for you." Taylor smiled at him.
Isaac smiled back. "Yeah, me too."
