CHAPTER SEVENTEEN - THE FLYING MONKEY

"So, what do you want to do today?" Phoebe asked, when Judy came out of the bathroom.
"I don't know. I'm the guest. Show me around." She smiled and put two clips in her hair.
"Ok...but I don't really know where to take you." Phoebe slid on her sandals.
"How about the movies?"
"Ok cool. What do you want to see?"
Judy shrugged. "What's playing?"
"I have no idea. Let me go get the paper." Phoebe hopped off the bed and headed downstairs. She returned a few minutes
later.
"Ok, let's see here..." She laid the paper on the floor and quickly turned to the Daily Break.
Judy got on the floor to look as well. "I never heard of that movie before." She commented, pointing to the paper.
"Same here...it's weird." Close by their neighborhood, was a movie house that sometimes played odd, or different movies. It
was fun to watch sometimes..."B" movies can be very funny.
"Why don't we check it out?" Phoebe asked, after thinking about it.
"Really?"
"Yeah. Nothing else is out that I want to see."
Judy thought for a second and then agreed. "Ok, I'm sure we'll have fun anyway."
Phoebe smiled, and then that smile fell.
"How are we going to get there? I forgot that my mom and dad were at work."
"That's ok! Can we walk?"
"I guess...it's kinda hot though."
"What about Isaac? Could he drive?"
Phoebe shook her head. "They left early this morning. I think they went to practice again."
"Darn. Well...I'm sure it won't kill us if we walk."
"Alright, I mean, how far can it be from here?"
Judy smiled. "Come on, let's go."

Phoebe and Judy finally made it to the movie house. It took around twenty minutes to walk there, but they were still in time to
see the previews. It was really easy to walk to as well. They had called and then they took down directions.
The movie house was small, only two theaters. It was a highlight in Tulsa though. This place had been there for over twenty
years. Phoebe was amazed when she saw it. It had an old, antique look to it.
Judy squinted her eyes and looked up at the marquee. Yep, "The Flying Monkey" was playing in fifteen minutes. "I don't get
this name..." She said to Phoebe.
"Yeah really. Very weird." They stepped up to buy their tickets.
"Um, two for 'The Flying Monkey' please." Phoebe felt like an idiot just saying the name.
The woman behind the window smiled and rang up their tickets. "That will be five dollars even please."
Judy smiled. "It's a cheap movie too!"
Phoebe handed over the five dollars and then headed inside with Judy.
"Wow, this place looks so cool!"
"I know! It's like we stepped into the 50's or something!" Phoebe exclaimed, looking at all the decorations.
"I love this place. I want to come here again before I have to leave."
"Yeah! We'll do that." They both walked up and handed their tickets over. Then they walked into the theater. The ticket guy
had handed them two pairs of 3-D glasses. This surprised them. They had no idea it was a 3-D movie.
Quickly, they found their seats in the very back. There were only a few people in there, but more entered every few minutes.
"Oh, he's kinda cute." Judy pointed to a blonde haired boy sitting a few rows in front of them.
"You can't even see his face Judy."
She rolled her eyes. "I noticed his face when he came in here."
"Oh..ok." Phoebe laughed.
"Hey, do you want some popcorn?"
"Yeah sure. I'll go get it!" Phoebe jumped up and carefully made her way through the aisle.
Judy settled back and still stared at the boy. She lied. She hadn't seen his face...but she knew he was cute. While she was
staring he kinda turned to the side a little. Judy sucked her breath in. "Oh my..." She whispered outloud to herself. This boy
looked like Taylor. But, could it be? He was at practice. A girl soon joined him and Phoebe wasn't back yet. Judy decided that
she better find out who this is. He leaned over and kissed the girl. Judy hopped up and walked over to him.
"Hah! I caught you Taylor Hanson!" She put her hands on her hips.
The boy turned around...and it wasn't Taylor. "I am so sick of every girl saying that I'm Taylor Hanson! I hate that group! Get a
life..." He rolled his eyes and turned back to kissing his girlfriend.
Judy wanted to crawl in a hole and die. She ran back to her seat and covered her head up with her hands. How humiliating.

Phoebe returned with the popcorn and soda not long after. "Hey, what's wrong? Do you have a headache?" She asked Judy
when she saw that she covering up her head.
"No...I'm fine. Well, not unless you call embarrassment an illness."
"What happened?" Phoebe took a sip of her soda.
"You know the cute guy?" Judy glanced his way.
"Yeah..."
"I thought he was Taylor."
Phoebe laughed. "He's at practice though."
"I know! I went over and yelled at him because I thought he was cheating on you."
She turned really red.
"Taylor would never do that...but thanks for looking out for me." Phoebe said, trying to ease her embarrassment. "He won't
remember it anyway. He's way too busy." She stared at him. He was still making out.
Judy laughed. "Yeah you're right." She took her popcorn and soda and relaxed a little. They both reclined in their seats and
stared at the screen.

"Ahh! Darn monkey!" Judy smacked the air, trying to hit the monkey that had tormented her the whole movie.
Phoebe was laughing so hard...she almost choked on her popcorn. This 3-D was cool.
"Judy...it's...bugging...everyone!" She barely got the words out. The movie was so stupid, it was funny.
Finally, the monkey flew away and then something else popped in front of her. Now Judy was laughing. In fact, the whole
theater was laughing. They were having a great time.
Thirty minutes later, the movie was over with. Phoebe couldn't figure out the plot...or the point of it. Oh well, it was worth the
five bucks though.
They stood up and stretched...letting the Taylor look alike and his girlfriend leave before them. Judy didn't want to embarrass
herself by bumping into him or something.
"Hey, don't throw away your glasses. They could come in handy." Phoebe stuck hers in her backpocket.
"So, what did you think of the movie?" Judy asked, once they were out of the theater and in the lobby.
"It was funny! I loved laughing that much."
"Me too!" Judy smiled and threw away her empty popcorn box. "I'm almost dreading walking home though..."
"It won't be so bad. Hey, maybe it's cooler out now." Phoebe said, with hope.
"Oh! I have an idea!" Judy exclaimed.
"What?!"
"Let's call a taxi!"
"Huh? Doesn't that cost a lot?" Phoebe asked.
"It shouldn't! By car we can get home in less than ten minutes."
Phoebe and Judy then counted up how much money they had left over. Twenty bucks between them.
"Well, ok then. This should be more than enough."
"Ok cool!" Judy ran over to the payphone and starting thumbing through the phone book. She found a taxi service and called,
telling them the name of the movie house.
"Ok, thanks. Bye!" She hung up the phone and ran back over to Phoebe.
"They should be here any minute. The taxi place is right up the road from here."
"Let's wait outside then." Phoebe said. They walked outside and sat down on the curb.
"Did you tell them we were minors?"
"Yep."
"Ok...I just wasn't sure if we could get a taxi if we were under eighteen."
"Nah, you can get one...as long as you have cash." Judy smiled.
Sure enough, the taxi pulled up a few minutes later. Phoebe peered in and jumped.
She yanked Judy over to her. "He looks crazy!" She whispered.
Judy looked in and jumped back too. "You're right! He doesn't have any front teeth!"
Phoebe gulped. "Remember that movie about that girl and the crazy cab driver who drove her to her house and then killed the
whole family?!"
"I do! Oh my gosh...what if that happens to us?" Judy looked at the cab driver again. He was staring at them.
"Climb on in! The seats are cool." He said, with a wink.
"Um..." Phoebe slowly backed up with Judy. "We don't need a ride now. Thanks."
He looked mad now. "I drove out here for nothing! You better pay me!"
"Forget it! You only drove five minutes to get here!" Judy yelled back.
"I don't take crap from no silly girls! Pay me or I get mad!"
This dude needed to take a few more courses on the english language.
"No! Get away!" Phoebe yelled back.
He unbuckled his seatbelt and opened up the door.
"I said pay me." He clenched his fists and lowered his eyes.
Phoebe and Judy gulped. What were they going to do now?
