CHAPTER THREE - CONTINUED

Phoebe's mom heard her yell and came back into the room. She explained that she was hot, and her mother brought in a fan
and gave her a cool towel to place on her forehead. Phoebe relaxed after a while and began to cool off.

Taylor walked around until he was under the Weeping Willow tree and stood there, staring up at her window. He wanted to
see if she was alright, but hesitated climbing up. He thought about it for a moment, then decided it was ok since they were
friends. Plus, she didn't mind the first time he did. Taking a deep breath, He jumped up and grabbed the branch. Slowly, but
surely he was making his way to her window.

Phoebe was almost asleep when she heard Taylor at her window. His upper body was in line with the edge of it.
"Taylor, what are you doing?"
"I uh... wanted to see how you were feeling. I heard you yell something. Are you ok?"
She got ready to answer, when she heard her mom coming back up the stairs. Taylor tried to jump down a branch but missed.
He grabbed on to the edge of the window saving him from a fall. He just hung there. He took a deep breath and tried to stay
still. Phoebe saw this and was upset now. Georgia came in the room with her medicine.
"Here you are. Take this and try to get some sleep." She handed her the pill and a glass of water.
Phoebe took it very quickly, hoping that her mother would go away now.
"Ok, thanks mom. Goodnight."
Georgia noticed the urgency in her voice. She rolled her eyes. "Yes mom. I'm fine. I just need to go to sleep. Ok?"
Georgia looked around and then left, saying goodnight once again.

Isaac opened up the front door and came out to get his brother. They were tired of waiting on him. He walked around and
didn't see him. Thinking he could have gone in the backyard, he walked around to the side gate. Glancing up at Phoebe's
house, he noticed someone hanging from her window.
"Who the heck is that?" He said out loud walking under her window.
Taylor was almost loosing his grip. His hands were getting very tired. Isaac just then realized it was his brother.
"Hello Taylor? What are you doing? I swear you are on drugs or something."
Phoebe heard Isaac and hoped he could help Taylor because she sure couldn't.
"Just hang on Tay! I'm sure Isaac can help you."
He looked down at his brother. "I'm not on drugs ok! This is serious IKE! Help me!"
"What am I supposed to do? Can you tell me that?"
Taylor clenched his teeth. "Just do something!" He tried to swing his foot over and get it on the branch, but he missed. Plus, the
swinging didn't help the situation at all.
"Oh man! Taylor why do you get yourself into these situations?" He put his hands on his hips. "Ok, just fall. I'll try to catch you
or something."
"What?!" Taylor yelled.
"Drop TAYLOR!"
"Are you crazy Isaac? You can't catch me!"
Isaac sighed. "Whatever. Just do what I say or I'm gone. This is so ridiculous!"
"Fine! I will drop then!" He took a deep breath, let go and closed his eyes.
Isaac put his arms out and caught him, falling to the ground from the weight.
"Get off me please."
Taylor rolled over and lay on the grass. "Thanks Ike. I'm sorry you had to do that."
Isaac smiled a little. "Well Taylor this was a little extreme don't you think? But, that's ok... I'm sorry I got a little frustrated with
you." He couldn't stay mad or angry with his brother for long. He was just glad that they didn't get hurt.
"Yeah, ok. Let's just go inside before mom calls the police and files a missing kids report."
Isaac laughed and got up. Taylor put out his hand and Isaac rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, sure buddy. Get up." He walked off towards the house and Taylor stood up.
Looking up at her window, he yelled, "I'm ok Phoebe! I'll just see you tomorrow! Goodnight!"
She smiled and was relieved that he was ok. "Ok, then! Night!"
He smiled and walked back over to his house, feeling somewhat embarassed.

The sun shone through Taylor's bedroom window the next morning, right on his face. Zac was by the window with the shade
string in his hand.
"Wake up Tay! It's like ten o'clock all ready."
Isaac was already up and eating cereal in the kitchen.
"Man, stop it with the shade Zac! Everyday of my life..." He trailed off covering his face up with a pillow.
Zac laughed and sat down at the computer turning on his game. Taylor sretched and yawned, taking his sweet time to get up. A
few minutes later, their phone rang.
"Taylor, it's for you! I think it's your girlfriend." Isaac yelled from the kitchen.
He sat up and quickly ran to the kitchen taking the phone before Isaac could say anything else.
"Hello, this is Taylor."
"Hi Taylor! This is Phoebe."
He smiled. "Hey, what's up?"
"Nothing really. I was just calling to let you know that you don't have to be here until two-thirty. The call time is a bit later
today."
"Oh, ok then. So, how are you feeling?" He grabbed a bowl and poured a little cereal in it.
"Actually a little better. It's weird... hmm, I should be asking you that question though."
He laughed. "Oh, yeah... about last night."
"Yep. Did you get hurt at all?" She asked him.
"Well, no. Isaac sort of caught me, but I knocked him over."
She laughed. "At least you're ok then."
"Yeah I guess. I was kinda embarassed though."
"Aww, don't be. That wasn't embarassing at all compared to what I did. Spying on you guys!"
She laughed. "Ok, ok. I gotta get off now. My mom wants to help me get dressed. Oh, but she did say something about the
doctor calling her on the cell phone last night. I'll have to find out what that is all about."
Taylor ate a spoonful of cereal. "I hope it's good news."
"Yeah me too. Ok, I'll let you go. See you at two-thirty Tay!"
"You bet! Bye girl!" He hung up the phone and looked over at Isaac.
"What are you staring at?" He walked around the counter and sat on a stool.
"Oh nothing Tay. Nothing at all." Isaac smiled and walked to their bedroom.
"Ok, whatever that means." He rolled his eyes and continued eating.

Phoebe had managed to get out of bed and help dress herself.
"Mom, I don't get it. I would usually be in pain if I did this."
Georgia just looked at her. "I don't understand at all. Maybe the medicine hasn't worn off yet. Well, you just took some an hour
ago as well. Hmm, maybe I should call the doctor."
Phoebe frowned a little. "You said that the doctor called you last night."
"Oh yes that's right. He has your wheelchair ready for pickup. He said we should have it, just in case you were able to sit up."
She changed her sheets and was almost finished making the bed.
"Wow, so I might be able to kinda move around my room! Cool!" She smiled and slowly leaned back down on her bed.
"Thanks mom. So, when do I get it?"
"Your father will be leaving in a few for the hospital. I wanted to see how you did in it before I left for work." Her mom
grabbed some clean clothes and put them in her dresser.
"Ok. That's fine. This should be interesting. I feel so much like a hospital patient. Now, I'm really gonna feel like one!" Phoebe
laughed a little.
Georgia smiled. "Well, at least you might be able to do something else besides lay in bed all day. But, I don't want you to abuse
the wheelchair. You should only be in it a few times a day. You still need to keep your back at ease. It's only been a few days
now. The doctor said three weeks."
She put her hand on her cheek. "I'll tell your father to talk to the doctor about how you are coming along."
She walked over to the bedroom door. "I'll be back up in a little bit. Just rest now."
Taylor pulled on a t-shirt and jeans, then made his bed. He pulled his hair back and put his shoes on. He heard his mother
talking and then she knocked on his door.
"Come in!"
Diana walked in with her car keys in hand.
"I'm going to the store to get a few things. Isaac is taking Jessica to her dentist appointment soon and I'm taking Mackie, Avery
and Zoe with me. Zac's outside. Would you like to ride?"
He thought for a moment. "Not really mom. I wanted to just hang around for a little while. I'm going to Phoebe's at two-thirty."
She smiled. "Ok then. How is she doing?"
"Oh pretty good. She likes me being there."
"Well that's good Tay. It's nice of you to help her out."
He smiled. "I'll see you in a little while." He gave her a hug and followed her to the door. Sitting on the porch, he gave a little
wave before she drove out of his sight.

Phoebe's dad got back home an hour later. It was noon now. Her mom and dad brought the wheelchair upstairs. She sat up a
little when they entered her room.
"Wow! Already back huh?"
Her dad smiled. "Yes, that was a fast trip." He looked at the wheelchair. "Looks nice. How about you try it out now?"
"Ok! Sure!"
Georgia helped her up and into the chair. They put a small pillow behind her back. She sat there and got comfortable before
she decided to move.
"Ok, I guess I'll move it now. I hope I don't hurt myself."
"Just go easy honey. There's no rush." Georgia stood back and put her hands on her hips waiting for her to move. Clarke stood
with her.
She slowly pushed the wheels and moved forward. She turned it and went over to her window and then turned it so she was
facing her parents.
"Cool! That didn't hurt at all!"
Georgia and Clarke smiled. "Great honey! Ok, now come on back to us."
She pushed the chair back to her parents. She was feeling great. She could now do something besides lay in bed being bored.
"Alright, I'm glad that works for you. Wheel around a little more if you like. We'll go downstairs and get you some lunch in the
meantime. Be back in a second." They let her be for a while.
She laughed and went over to the desk, pulling out her cd's. Getting her player, she popped in some music and closed her eyes.

Phoebe finished listening just as her parents walked in her room. She took the headpones off her ears.
"Are you leaving now?"
"Yes. We'll be back hopefully around ten. Taylor should be here," They heard the door bell ring. "right about now."
Georgia smiled and gave her a hug then went downstairs to open the door.
"Bye dad. I'll see you later." She hugged him and then he left too. She wheeled on over to her bed and waited for Taylor to
come upstairs.

Taylor went up the stairs after saying goodbye to her parents. He walked in the room.
"Hey. Nice wheels you got there!" He smiled and gave her a hug. "Well, I bet you're glad to be out of bed."
She smiled. "Yeah, it's nice. I like being able to go around my room." She moved the chair and turned it around.
"Well, this is cool! What do you want to do? I'm here till like ten or something I think."
She looked around her room. "Uh, hmm. Tough question. What do you want to do?"
He sat on her bed and thought for a moment. "Ok I have an idea. How about we play a board game or something? That will at
least pass some of our time."
She looked at her closet then back to Taylor. "Ok, sure. I have some games in my closet."
He walked over and opened it up. "What do we have here? Hmm, ok... we can play "Upwords", "Blurt", "Sorry", "Clue" or..."
He pulled out a big pink box. "Mall Madness? What kind of game is that?" He flipped the box over.
She laughed. "Oh that's a game I got when I was younger. You just shop and the first person to buy a certain amount of things
wins. Stupid game with no point."
He smiled. "Ok, which one do you want to play then?"
"How about "Upwords"? That's a cool game."
He picked up the box. "Looks good to me. Where can we set this up?"
She looked around. "Well there is a card table in the spare bedroom. You can use that."
"Alright, let me go get that then. Be right back." He ran out of the room and down the hallway.

Phoebe was lost in thought when he returned.
"This thing is kinda heavy." He said putting it down.
"Oh, I wish I could help you." She smiled a little.
"Yeah, well you need to get better. Believe me... you owe me big time girlie." He laughed and she rolled her eyes.
"Haha, you are so funny. I'll run you over!" She took off in her wheel chair and chased him around the room.
He was laughing so hard at her. "You're like and old lady in a nursing home or something." He said in between laughs.
She giggled and stopped her chair. "Man, my arms are tired!" She rubbed her arms then hung them at the side of the chair.
"Yeah, you'll get big and buff in your arms just from that." He walked over and pushed her to the table.
"Thanks Tay. I think my arms are going to fall off!" She laughed. "I gotta get used to this!"
He smiled and opened up the box. "Wow, this looks like Scrabble."
"Yeah, but it's better. The letters don't slide around the board. They stay put even if you lift it up." She demonstrated.
"Ahh, I see. How nice." He smiled and read the directions. "Ok, seems simple enough. You go first."
Phoebe and Taylor played for a little while. He was winning and she was trying her best to make a word out of her seven
letters. He waited patiently as she decided.
"Ok, I got one! Not the best word, but hey it counts!" She placed on the board the letters, "B", "R", "A".
He read the word and blushed. She smiled to herself. She knew what she was doing. Maybe he would tell his secret of the
underwear drawer adventure.
"Um, that's six points." He marked it down on the score sheet.
"Yep. Six points for the word BRA." She really stressed that word.
He looked up at her then at his lap. She smiled a bit.
"You know something don't you?" He asked her.
"Yep." She answered trying not to giggle.
"Ok, ok. I know you know this already but... I went through your underwear and bra drawer that first night I was over." He
blushed really bad and covered up his eyes.
"I knew it Tay. But, you know... it doesn't really bug me. I know you're not that kind of guy." Her mind flashed back to that
evening... when they first kissed. He was thinking the same thing.
"You don't think of me like that? I mean, I was a little anxious that first night when I... kissed you in your room." He rubbed his
hands together nervously.
"No, I don't Taylor. I kissed you back."
He nodded his head. "Well, Phoebe, I just really like you. I don't usually kiss some girl the minute I meet her. Either way, I
shouldn't have done that. I should have waited."
She looked down at her lap. "Taylor, why aren't there more guys like you?"
He blushed... again. "Thanks Phoebe. I don't know why..." He smiled and she laughed.
"Well, I'm glad I have a good guy. I really appreciate everything you are doing for me. When I'm better, I'm taking you out. My
treat."
He smiled. "Alright then. It's a date." He took her hand and kissed her palm.
