Phoebe walked into her house and smiled. "I am
so happy that I can walk!" She exclaimed.
Georgia smiled. "Just remember to take it easy.
We don't want anything else to happen."
Phoebe nodded. "Don't worry. I will. I'm going
to go call Taylor now. I'll be in my room."
Clarke and Georgia watched her go up the stairs
and then they went into the living room to talk.
She sat down in her bed and dialed his number.
After a few rings, Mrs. Hanson answered.
"Hello?"
"Hi Mrs. Hanson. This is Phoebe. Is Taylor home?"
"Oh, yes he's home. Hold on, I'll go get him."
"Ok." She replied. She could hear Mackie in the
background asking for more juice.
After a few minutes, Taylor picked it up.
"Ok, I got it!"
Phoebe heard Diana hang up the other phone.
"Hey Phoebe!"
"Hey Taylor."
He took a sip of his soda. "So, how did everything
go at the doctors? You guys weren't gone that long."
"Well, that was what I was calling you about.
My back is fine! I can walk again!"
He almost spit out his drink. "What?? Just like
that?" He exclaimed.
"Yes! I am so happy! The doctor said I must have
just popped it back in place!" She laughed, she was so happy.
"Phoebe, this is great. I feel so much better
now that you can walk." He said.
She could tell that he was smiling.
"Hey, go to your window. You are in your room
right?" She asked him.
"Yep, I am. You go to yours."
He walked with the phone over to his window.
She did the same. She waved. He returned it.
"I don't see Ike or Zac anywhere. Where are they?"
"Oh, they are watching tv. Ike has to leave in
an hour to take Jessie over to Joey's house." He informed her.
"Cool. Oh, my mom said that you needed to see
me tonight."
He got butterflies in his stomach when she said
that. "Oh yeah... I do. Um, can you meet me by your Willow tree around
eight?"
This made her curious. "Sure, I'll meet you then.
Is this something good Tay?"
"Oh yeah! Something very good. You could even
call it a surprise."
She giggled. "I love surprises."
Taylor smiled to himself. "Well, I gotta get
off the phone now. I have to do some things. I'll see you at eight!"
"Ok, see you then! Bye Tay!"
He waved in his window. She waved back. "Bye
Phoebe."
Avery sat on her bed watching Jessica run around
the room gathering her clothes, games and whatever else she wanted to bring
over to Joey's.
"Are you moving Jessie?" She asked her.
Jessica laughed. "No, I'm spending the night
at Joey's."
Avery smiled. "I get the whole room to myself
then. I will have a party with my barbies tonight."
Jessica turned around. "Just don't mess with
mine. Wait, I have to bring them anyway. Nevermind." She grabbed her barbies
and shoved them into her bag.
Jessica loved barbies even though she was ten.
It was always the thing to buy with her. She loved collecting them. Joey
always
tried to compete by buying new barbies and accesories
all the time.
She grabbed her toothbrush from the bathroom
and her slippers. "Ok, I'm all done. I don't have to leave for... twenty
minutes
though." She sat down beside her sister.
Diana knocked on the door then opened it. "Are
you done packing?"
"Yep. All done."
"Ok, well Isaac wants to take you now. I have
no idea why he wants to leave so early."
Jessica smiled. She knew why. "Ok, I'll be right
down."
Jessica gave Avery a hug and said goodbye before
leaving her room.
Taylor opened the fridge to check on the candy.
Everything was ok. He smiled and shut the door. Isaac walked into the kitchen
and took the car keys.
"Where are you going now, Ike?"
He stopped and turned around. "To take Jessie
back over to Joey's. She is spending the night there."
Taylor laughed. "Don't be obvious about anything...
you look like a taxi service now. Gee, get a grip already..."
Isaac rolled his eyes.
"You do that so much Ike. One day they are just
going to keep rolling, and rolling and rolling..." He laughed again.
"Sure. That's what they will do. I'll be back
in a little while." He smiled and left the room.
"I'll be in the car Jessie!" He yelled as she
came down the stairs.
"Ok, be right out." She pounced into the kitchen
to grab her gum.
"Hey Jessie, make sure you get the goods from
Maddy, ok?"
She laughed. "I was going to anyway. Bye!" She
hugged him, then ran outside to the car.
Isaac pulled up to Joey's house... again. He got
out with Jessica and walked her up to the porch. He rang the doorbell.
"You have everything you need?" He asked his
sister.
"Yep. Oh, tomorrow we are going to the skating
rink though."
He rang the doorbell again. "Here. Take this.
I don't think mom gave you any money." He reached into his wallet and gave
her
ten bucks.
"Thanks Ike."
The door opened and Joey stood there. "Hey girl!"
She grabbed one of Jessica's bags.
Isaac looked beyond Joey hoping to catch another
glimpse of Maddy.
"Ike, she went to the store." Joey said very
casual.
He blushed, suddenly feeling stupid. Maybe I
am too obvious, he thought to himself. "Well, see you tomorrow Jessie.
Call
when you have to be picked up."
"Ok. I will. Bye!" She waved as Joey shut the
door.
He turned around and went back to his car.
It was eight o'clock now. Taylor rubbed his hands
together. He was nervous. He leaned against the Weeping Willow tree and
clutched the ring box. He heard her door open.
He quickly hid the candy behind the other side of the tree. Hopefully,
she
wouldn't notice them until the right time. He
walked over and saw her come around the corner.
"Hey!" She said and hugged him.
He smiled and hugged her back. "It's great to
see you walking again Phoebe."
She hugged him again. "It is. So, what do you
need to see me about."
His heart pounded so hard her was sure she could
hear it. She smiled and waited for him to talk.
"Um, well come over here and sit down first."
She walked over to the Willow tree and sat down
on a little blanket that he had brought out. She leaned against the tree
and he
sat in front of her.
"Taylor! You're killing me here. What is this?"
She laughed.
He took a deep breath. "Ok, close your eyes."
"Alright. Will do." She closed her eyes.
He reached around the tree and grabbed the candy.
"This is for you." He placed the box in her hands.
She opened her eyes and stared at the box. "Oh
chocolate! My favorite kind too. How sweet."
He smiled. He was relaxing a little. "So, what
is all this about?" She asked again.
He took a deep breath and took her hand. Now
she had butterflies in her stomach.
"I want to ask you to be my girlfriend. I have
liked you since they day I first saw you. You are special to me. I know
that I am
young and people might not take me serious, but
I am. I mean every word that I have ever said and I cherish every second,
minute and hour that I have ever spent with you.
I want us to always be like this."
She let out her breath. She didn't realize that
she was holding it untill just then. Her eyes watered up. Taylor held the
ring box
open, then he took out the ring.
"I want you to wear this." He placed it on her
ring finger. It fit like it was made for her.
Phoebe looked at it and then hugged him, knocking
him on his back. "Yes, I will be your girlfriend."
He laughed and hugged her, placing a kiss on
her lips. They lay there in the grass laughing and talking. Taylor felt
like he was in
heaven. This was a perfect night.
Phoebe walked into her house after saying goodnight
to Taylor. She leaned against the door and looked at her ring once more.
She smiled and went into the living room where
her parents were sitting.
"Hi mom, dad." They both looked up and smiled
when they saw what she hand in her hands.
"Oh my, Phoebe. Did Taylor give you that?" Georgia
asked.
She nodded her head and gigled. Her mom smiled
and her dad gave a small chuckle.
"That's one nice young man, I'd have to say."
He commented.
"Yes, he is! He asked me to be his girlfriend!
My first real boyfriend!" She exclaimed.
"I thought you two would end up together."
"Yeah me too! He also gave me this." She said
holding up her hand.
"Wow, that is a beautiful ring! And it's silver.
Your favorite." Georgia smiled.
"Yeah, he must have noticed. Ok, I'm gonna go
up in my room. I'll be down in a little while!"
She went up the stairs and into her room, closing
the door behind her. She opened up the chocolate and took a piece out.
She
popped it into her mouth and thought about Taylor.
Isaac was sitting in their bedroom typing on the
computer when Taylor walked in.
"Hey." He said not looking away from the screen.
Taylor had the biggest grin on his face. He sat
on his bed. "Hey Ike."
He looked at his brother waiting for him to start
asking questions. Taylor coughed. Then he sighed. He shrugged his shoulders
and stared at him. "Well? Aren't you going to
ask me anything?"
Isaac smiled to himself and turned around in
the chair. "Ok, how did it go?"
"It went great! She said yes, and then she hugged
me so hard I fell over! But it was so perfect. We just layed in the grass
and
talked and talked." He layed down on the bed.
Isaac sat back. "Wow Tay! Well, I am happy for
you. You and Phoebe go good together."
"Yeah, we sure do." He sighed and stared at the
ceiling suddenly lost in thought.
Isaac grinned a little and then turned back to
his work. Zac came into the bedroom.
"Oh hey Tay."
Taylor gave him a wave.
"Have you guys seen my new box of Lego's? I need
them to finish my latest project."
"Hmm," Isaac said looking around the room. "Oh,
wait! They are in Jessie's room I think. She was messing with them a few
days ago."
"Oh great, thanks!" He took off out of the room.
"The ring fit perfect. She loved it." He said
rolling over onto his side.
"You are just the lucky guy today, aren't you?"
Isaac said with a laugh.
"Yep, I guess I am." He thought for a second
and then sat straight up. "Oh my gosh! I have to take her on a first date!
Where
am I going to go?" He got up and started walking
around the room.
Isaac turned around to observe his brother. "Don't
rush things. Take her out like next weekend. Give your boyfriend/girlfriend
thing some time to get used to."
Taylor put his hands on his hips. "Well look
at you! You are taking that Maddy girl out tomorrow night!"
He rolled his eyes. "We are going on a walk,
Tay. Not really the kind of thing I'd do for a first date but, she wanted
to. You
and Phoebe practically do that all the time."
He finished saying.
"Huh? We have never been on a walk. If you didn't
remember, she was in bed for a while with a hurt back. She couldn't walk."
He pushed his hair back.
"Well she can walk now! Why don't you two just
go do that."
This time Taylor rolled his eyes. "You just said
that wasn't your idea of a first date! I don't want to be all cheesin'
on her."
Isaac laughed. "Cheesin'? Ok..."
He blew out his breath in frustration. "You know
what I mean Ike. I need your advice."
He saved his work and turned off the computer.
"I gave you my advice. Let things be for a while. Take her out next weekend."
He went over to his drawer and got out a sweatshirt.
"Where are you going?"
"In the backyard. I need some quiet so I can
think of more ideas for my novel." He grabbed his notebook and a pen.
"And just leave me in here all confused??" Taylor
yelled.
"Shh! You are getting obnoxious Tay! Go talk
to Zac. Jeez..."
"ZAC! ZAC! What does he know about girls??" Taylor
yelled, his voice squeaking at the end of his sentence.
Zac came to the door. "You rang?"
Taylor looked at him like he was crazy. "No,
I didn't." He walked back into the bedroom.
"You called my name out." He said crossing his
arms.
"Well...yeah. But Ike told me to ask you things
about girls. You don't know anything about them." He sat back on his bed.
"What? Yes I do." He stated.
"Ok, sure. What do you know then?"
"Well, I know that they get this thing every
month...it's called a..."
Taylor threw a pillow at him. "Thank you. I've
had enough. That's so embarassing Zac! That's the first thing that comes
to your
mind when I ask that question??"
He sighed. "Well, they always make a big deal
about it! At least that's what mom said."
"Well, I don't need advice on that. Thanks."
"I guess my service just isn't needed around
here." He turned and went back to his lego's.
Taylor sorta laughed a little. Sometimes he wished
he had a big sister. A sister that could tell him what girls wanted. He
sighed
and turned the computer back on. Maybe he'd go
online for a while. He punched in his password and waited while it dialed.
After saying goodnight to her parents, Phoebe
went back upstairs and changed into her night clothes. She turned off her
light
and sat on her bed. Her window was open and the
moonlight reflected off her blue satin shirt. She held the small globe
in her
hand and admired it. As she was staring at it,
she suddenly thought of Judy. She would be seeing her soon. Her mother
promised. She got butterflies in her stomach.
It would be so wonderful to see her. She was already excited.
"What is she going to say about this?" She whispered
to herself. She smiled and sat the globe back down in it's place and
looked over at the window. She could see a faint
yellow glow outside. She got out of bed and walked over to the window.
Taylor's bedroom light was on. He was on the
computer. She sat down in the window seat and covered up with a quilt she
kept nearby. A vine from the Weeping Willow tree
blew into her window and she grabbed it. That reminded her of the night
in
the treehouse with him. She smiled and let go
of it. Suddenly very tired, she curled up and closed her eyes.
Taylor turned off the computer and stretched.
He glanced up at her window and noticed that she was sitting in the seat.
He
opened his window and started to say something,
when he realized she was asleep. He closed it and walked to the bathroom.
Stopping right at the door, he turned around
and walked back over to the window. Phoebe did not need to sleep sitting
up
when her back was just fixed.
He opened it up and yelled, "Phoebe! Phoebe!
Hey, wake up!"
She jerked awake and fell out of the seat and
onto her floor.
"Oh my god!" He exclaimed, thinking she was hurt
again.
He didn't see her get back up, so he climbed
out of his window and onto a branch.
"It's ok. I'm coming!" He jumped over to the
next branch. He made his way safely across and up to her window. He climbed
in, and jumped over to the side, tripping and
falling on his butt.
"Ouch," he said and then he crawled over to her.
He shook her and she woke back up. "Are you ok?"
He asked.
She looked around confused. She rubbed her head
and then remembered. "Oh, yeah. I'm fine. I think I fell asleep in the
window."
Taylor smiled. "You did. I saw you and I called
your name, then you fell off."
She laughed. "Oh man. I am silly, huh?"
"No, you're not silly." He gave her a kiss. "Here,
let's get you in bed."
She started to get up.
"No, no! I'll get you!" Taylor leaned down and
picked her up.
"Taylor! I can walk, remember?" She knew that
she was blushing.
He smiled and placed her down on her bed. "There.
See, no problem at all."
She giggled and got under the covers. He stared
at her. She stared back.
"Nice shirt." He said.
"Oh, thanks." She looked down at it.
"Well, I guess I'd better get back to my house."
He leaned over and gave her a hug.
"Ok, see you tomorrow Tay."
He walked over to the window. "Yeah, see you."
He waved and climbed out.
"Be careful!!" She yelled.
He laughed. "I am!"
She waited until she heard him drop to the ground.
"I made it!!"
She smiled. "Ok, goodnight Tay!!"
"Goodnight Phoebe!!" He looked up at the window
and started back to his house when someone tapped him on the shoulder.
He jumped and turned around.
"So that's what you do..." Isaac said.
Taylor rolled his eyes. "What are you doing out
here?"
"I went in the backyard to think and then I swore
I saw someone climb up that tree and oh my...it was you." He laughed.
"Ike! You know I'm harmless!"
Isaac nodded his head. "Yeah, I just enjoy messing
with you." He lightly punched him in the arm.
He fell to the ground. "Ouch! Don't do that so
hard!" He said in a baby voice.
He laughed and helped him back up.
"That wasn't funny." Taylor punched him back
and they both went inside, laughing.
