Friendship Never Dies
By: Angel
There once was a girl about 13. She lived in a neighborhood where there just wasn’t much positive stuff. There were drugs, police, dealers, etc. She’d sit in her house looking out the window, dreaming of another life full of fame and fortune. Elena wasn’t a happy child; she had had a rough childhood so far. she didn’t have any close friends except Wayne. Wayne was 16 and he lived in that neighborhood all his life so he was used to the violence.
Elena and Wayne used to hang out all the time, they were like brother and sister. Nothing could separate those two. Elena and Wayne used to just hang on her porch and they told each other everything. They especially liked to talk about wishes, they both had the same wishes you know, better life, not so much violence. Elena hated herself. She was short, 5’2” , weighed over 120, she had long brown hair and blue eyes. She didn’t hate everything about herself just probably the scar upset her the most. she was born with that scar. She cried every night about that scar. she couldn’t deal with being different, less fortunate. she felt like an outcast, shamed from the world. She used to watch other kids her age with their name brand clothes, nice shoes, homes, nice cars, etc.
Wayne knew all this about Elena because they told everything to each other. He had always been there when she needed him. He promised he would never leave her. His favorite thing to say was “ Friendship never dies,” but that sure did change with the quickness too.
A couple years went by and then Wayne was gone in a flash, (18 years old). Elena had just turned 15 years old. She was coming home from the store where she was supposed to meet Wayne but he never showed. As she was on her toward the house she could see some one running full speed towards her house, it was Wayne! It all went so fast it was playing in her head in slow motion. Wayne reached Elena’s porch but then a black cadillac with tinted windows rolled around the corner. All she could see was gun shots, and w body hitting her porch with great speed. The cadillac sped off down the street.
At first Elena was still in a daze...then she snapped out of it to her herself screaming NOOOOOO! She jetted for her house forgetting about traffic. She reached Wayne, dropped down besides him and pulled him up in her arms. Wayne, Wayne, don’t die, don’t die. There was blood all over both of them. Wayne’s eyes looked glassy and far away he looked at Elena and spoke very weakly.
“Elena, I got my wish. I’m finally leaving this place, going on to something better, ha.” He tried to laugh but it hurt to bad.
Elena had tears in her eyes she could hardly see Wayne clearly. “You ain’t gonna die, I won’t let you. You can’t leave me. No!”
“My times up it’s time for me to go. I’m not leaving you. I love you. You were my best friend forever.” Wayne took in his last breath saying the 3 words that will be remembered forever. “Friendship never dies.”
It’s now 1997 and Elena is 18. She still thinks about Wayne a lot. After his death Elena dropped out of high school. She now lives on Hoover road and has 2 children, Drew and Faith. They’re 6 and 3 months old. Elena doesn’t think that much about her life anymore since that fateful day. She stopped thinking about fame and fortune and now she focuses on Faith and Drew. She’s trying her best to give her kids the life she only fantasized about.
The memories of Wayne’s famous words will live on for eternity...”Friendship never dies.”
