Officially founded in 1989, Gunga-Din Productions was nothing more than two punks creating various styles on broken guitars, drum machines, and unsophisticated recording equipment. In early 1992, Gunga-Din Productions originator moved his interests to East Lansing, Michigan. It was there that 5 students from Michigan State University gave the production obligations a name. "Gunga-Din" was taken from the novel, Temple of Gold; a required reading for the students. Later that year, Gunga-Din Productions released their first short film, "The Tree", three albums and a video made by the original two back in the years 1989 thru 1991. Today,
Gunga-Din Productions has found it's way back to Detroit with interest
spanning throughout art, dance, spoken word, as well as music. Acting
as a division of SMEEP! Records, Inc., a Gunga-Din Production is anything
that is originated, implemented or created by the co-op of artisans, marketers,
and musical craftsmen.
