Acting as SMEEP! Records' primary recording studio,Kazneerg Studios originally started in 1987. With nothing but borrowed recording equipment, the studio served as a cheap efficient place to lay tracks down in the late 80's for what is now known as Banana Recordings. In 1989, Kazneerg Studios, upgrading their equipment as well as instrument variety and began to solicit bands outside the original Banana Recordings circle. "Probably the highlight of Kazneerg, in those days, was when Big Sugar used our location to shoot a video for their US release of Hemi Vision," said Zack Green, Owner and Chief Engineer. "It felt very natural to be working on projects like that." In 1996, Kazneerg Studios became part of SMEEP! Records. Upgrades in equipment and instrument gear allowed for new artists to fully experiment with sound and musical layering. Technology is not what makes up Kazneerg, however, a northeast Detroit location is. "You never know when a little quirk will happen like police sirens, helicopters, dogs barking; you know, little things like that can only add to the excitement of a recording mix. We provide those possibilities, plus the option of a completely sound shut studio." Today, Kazneerg's relationship with SMEEP! Records has allowed the expansion of two branch studios. Burse Productions/Studios with Banana Recordings allow for tracks to be smoothed out before actual recording sessions occur at Kazneerg.
