The Oldschool Page: The Past Revisited |

This picture probably captures the feeling of my highschool years better than any other. Sure, everyone and everything is not represented here, but this gives the general idea. Looking back, it is hard to say just what we were: maybe the bad element, maybe the only ones with a little sanity, who the hell knows? The point of this page, however, is to take a trip back into those days and remember what it was like to be young and careless. |

To lead off, the people in the picture above are (left to right) Chris Haywood, Me (Daavix), Nathan Bennett, Mike Frank, and Micah Heck (AKA Shadow). If you're really paying attention, you can guess which three of us were the most tightly knit. Guessed it? Give you a hint...try ALL BLACK! Yep, me, Micah, and Mike (more commonly known as Franko) were the main element here. Sure Nathan and Chris were around a lot, but it was us three that made up the heart and soul of our little group. Nathan and Chris had their own. Black was a trademark for us. At Carl Harrison High School, there were spirit days several fridays out of the year. We declared them Black Days, and would do nothing less than head-to-toe black, in direct opposition to the blue, green, and white that the day was intended for. We were disagreeable, generally ill-behaved, angry at everything, and managed to bring new meaning to the word outcast. We loved it. In fact, we reveled in the idea of being outside of the world that most of the people around us lived in. |

Here's an interesting shot. This one brings in another important element of our little band: one Dallas Corbitt. Dallas was an interesting addition to our group, being that he didn't go to school with any of us and it required a car to get between his place and ours. Yes, in those days the car thing was always an issue. Anyhow, Dallas was a drummer. He still is. I think somehow they transplanted it into his brain as a child. While I was the bad boy, being probably the worst influence on Micah and Franko, Dallas was willing to go neck and neck with me on anything. There were times, even, that Dallas was willing to go further than I. Together, the four of us were hell on wheels. Kneeling on the left is Dezarah, Micah's youngest sister. To the right kneeling is someone that you might recognize: Starlien, or more commonly Tarrah. When this picture was taken, the world was completely oblivious to the fact that she and I would be married in a matter of years and I would be here now in our home putting together this page. Fate has its way of producing the most unusual turns! |

Having gathered together enough potential musicians to form up, we did the only logical thing that four hormone driven teenage boys could do: formed a band. Sure, we weren't all that great, but those were some of the best days of my life. I can remember the energy, the fun, the way we all pulled together at the last minute and accomplished something great. No, it wasn't the music. It was the companionship. More than anything else, the band set in stone the friendship that we all shared. |

Sadly enough, most of the pictures of the band as a whole are nowhere to be found. Every now and then, one pops up and we all fly like vultures. I have a few. Dallas has a few. I assume Franko and Micah do as well. I'm not sure where the rest are. Missing pictures bother me. I'm still angry about the pictures we took at the Megadeth concert. They disappeared and are yet to resurface. Maybe one day... Anyway, up and to the left is a picture of me in my favorite pose. Tarrah is behind me, barely visable. To the right of that one is Franko with Jenn. She was kindof a part time groupie. To the left here is Dallas, me (don't ask about the hat!), Jenn, and Micah. We made quite a motley band in those days. |

Although it was an up and down kind of thing, Micah and I were probably the closest. We spent most of our time at his parents' house, causing havoc, getting into trouble, and planning our next move. Most of the time the band practiced there. We fought a lot, as I recall, always bickering and bitching, only to come out of it better than before. After a particularly bad fight, physical this time, we spent a while apart licking our wounds and stewing over the whole thing. It was a bad time and it sucked. I missed the dude. Eventually we started hanging out again and patched things up. I remember a conversation we had one day: |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
We were sitting on the top of Sweat Mountain. We had ridden up there with a bunch of dudes, kinda looking for something to do or somewhere to hang out. There was a really bitchin' cliff and we decided to climb it. Once on the top we sat down, took in the view, and fell into one of those really deep conversations that only two good friends can. I remember Micah saying something about us being brothers one day, for real, me marrying his sister Tarrah, and being bros for real. It was a shot in the dark, but it really happened. Every time I think about how things twist and turn in our lives, I remember that day. |

This is one of Dezarah's ex-boyfriends. His name is Michael Berry. We all called him Gravy. He was a really cool guy, turned out to be a really good friend, and was the last boyfriend Dez had that I really liked. It's a shame he isn't still around. |

This is a group picture from Dez's 16th (???) Birthday. Clockwise from left to right is Micah, his wife (now) Paige, Dezarah, T.J., Bobby, Tarrah, Me, and my brother Mike. I though this was a trippy photo and deserved its place here in the old school. |

Here are a couple of older pics of Tarrah and I. The one on the left was taken in South Carolina, on Parris Island (traslated "Hell" in Marine terms) at Micah's graduation from civilian life into the Marine Corps. |
