Maurice L. Lund

"I think I've died and gone to heaven. If I've been dreaming, I am going to be awfully disappointed if someone wakes me!" His blue eyes twinkle with excitement as he addresses the spectators around his booth, aptly titled, 'Lund'ys Sculptures'.  "I love carving," says the Kitchener-Waterloo artist.

Each sculpture is individually hand sculptured with the most delicate of care taken. A signed and dated certificate of authenticity from the artist will accompany each purchase.  Each piece is guaranteed to be one-of-a kind original.  As an example the
Maurice L. Lund was born in Manitoba, in 1933.  After completing his formal education at Teachers' College in Winnipeg, he taught school in Manitoba. Since then a career in the financial industry has taken him to various Canadian cities. He and his family moved to Kitchener-Waterloo in 1972.

His carving career began in 1980.  Each sculpture is created from a piece of stone originated in Ontario, Quebec, Labrador, Italy, Portugal, Vermont, Utah and Brazil to name just a few.

The most popular stone chosen for gift giving is by far the Canadian stone.  However, if the carving is one for personal enjoyment, the Brazil stone with its wide range of colour and character can be the most rewarding.  With colours ranging from blue to green, to white, to jade , or even brown all in one piece of material each finished sculpture is sure to be a genuine surprise and a 40 pound stone might end up to be a 20 pound work of art.

"It's a great feeling to take a piece of stone, make something absolutely unique and have people say, it's beautiful, and buy it as fast as I can create.  It's not work, I love to do it," he says of his sculpting.
