I too have children, and the thought of them being involved in such a tragedy chilled me. The saddest thing...is knowing that we, as a society, are the cause of this tragedy. Yes, there were two young boys that did the actual shooting...but think about it. When you look around the world today...what do you see? Parents that do not have the time their children DESERVE. Parents that are too busy trying to make the almight dollar. Some parents, because of bad choices they made in life, have to be away to work to support their children. But in such a case..where is the family? Where is the community?
We have grown so far from what the Creator intended. When a tragedy such as this takes place..people will stop and pull together. This is good. But, given time and space, those people begin to forget. They go back to the indifference that has come to mark our society. This page is a hope. A hope that someone will read it and NOT forget.
So if you are one of those parents...stop what you are doing, and look at your children. Do they not deserve the best you can give. They deserve your time, your ear, your heart and your love. If we can all give that to our children then maybe they won't feel the need to hurt others. They will be so full of your love that is what they will put out there.
The old native cultures knew that the Children were our future. That to ignore them, was to ignore the future.
So PLEASE!!!! take the time today to sit with your children and listen to them. Ask them how their day was. Ask them what they want to do in life. Ask them what scares them. Ask them what makes them happy. And tell them about your life. Tell them your fears and your joys. Give them a hug. Look into their eyes and see our future! Do you want that future to be full of love....? or indifference? The choice is yours....choose wisely.
I was asked once what the difference between wisdom and knowledge was. It took me many years to see. What I finally decided was....knowledge is what we take in every day of our lives, it is the learning. Wisdom is using that knowledge the way the Creator intended. So you may know that you should spend time with your children...but do you do it?
