Jewish Web - The Jewish home on the internet for Jewish homes
What is it?
The Jewish Web is a web ring that contains only sites which have been screened for acceptability to Torah observant Jews. Sites included in the Jewish Web will not:
- contain content, text or graphics, clearly against Halacha,
- contain content, text or graphics, that goes against Torah thinking,
- contain links to sites that meet the above criteria.
Why create it?
I have too many times heard from Observant Jews that they would not use or let their children use the internet because of the "dangers" that lie in wait for them. This upsets me as although I will not deny the the internet contains pages and whole sited devoted to unhalachic content, there is also many pages and sites of very valuable content. Such as a site I have heard of that search through the entire
Shas looking for a given topic. I feel the Torah observant Jew needs a totally Torah acceptable way to use the internet free from sites that content filters leave behind.
Why use it?
As far as I am aware there is no other web ring with a similar mission. By staying with in the Jewish Web you can be certain that the content will not cause you to compramise your standards.
How to use it?
There are 3 ways to know the a site is part of the Jewish Web. They are in order of certainty about the content:
- Use the "Jewish Web Search Engine" (not yet avaliable). This allows you to search the list of approved web sites according to your need.
- Whilst browsing use the "Jewish Web Content Approval" Java Applet (not yet avaliable). As you surf the Applet will check the list of approved pages and inform you which links are approved.
- Looking for the Jewish Web logo,
. This is listed as giving the least certainty about the content as only after loading the page can you check for the logo. Also there is a possibility of pages carrying the logo with out permission.
