Well, it didn't take us long... We bought a brand new house! It kinda took us by surprise... We were only looking and thinking of buying after the first of the year. But on November 30, we signed the paperwork to build our first home. By the end of the summer, we will be living in Dawson Landing in Woodbridge, Va.
Our neighborhood is being built by Ryan Homes. There is one model in the community, the Victoria. It has a beautiful entry way that I fell in love with. Gary loved the sunken living room. We decided to price that floorplan... Needless to say, we bought the same one. I have taken pictures of the inside of the model since the floorplan is so similar to ours... Let's go inside!
We start with that wonderful entry on the first floor. To the left, is the living room. Toward the back of the living room is the dining room . To the right of the dining room is the kitchen and morning room. Off the kitchen is Gary's favorite part, the sunken living room.
Upstairs, there are 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bedroom is huge! The staircase curves around and as you get to the top of the stairs, there are french doors leading into the huge room. The closet is big enough to double as a nursery!
We started with a dirt lot back in November and now we have moved on to having a hole! They started digging our foundation on March 24, 1999. It was that night that Gary and I decided to visit our dirt...
Yeah! They really started building! We got a deeper hole, then a little foundation. The basement sat for a while because the inspector needed a ladder to do his inspection. When he visited the site and had no way of getting into the basement, he failed it. They finally poured the basement floor and the garage floor, which we instantly marked as ours . We called the site supervisor to find out when they would start the walls and he told us that it would be this week (4/12/99). We visited on Thursday to find the crew hard at work !
Between all the April rain, the carpenters were able to finish the second floor and the roof . It took a while, but the carpenters were able to finish all the inside framing and the plumbers and electricians took over. One Friday night, we got together with our soon-to-be neighbors to enjoy the house... by candle light!
As soon as we got word, we went in on a weekend and starting wiring the house for our network. We were feeling a little hungry, so we got out the cell phone and called for a pizza to be delivered to the "half built house at the end of the street". The deliver guy was a little apprehensive , but was game for a picture with us.
