Now, a bit about myself. I was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada,
in 1948! I grew up in the Downsview and Vaughn areas until getting married and moving away in 1968. Since then I
have lived in several Ontario communities. Over the years I have had many
interests, ranging from arts and crafts and computers to porcelain doll making
and music. I have been a volunteer with a multitude of organizations over
the years - Girl Guides of Canada, Heart and Stroke, Victoria Order of Nurses, Children's Mental Health, Cursillo, County Music Festival Committee, and most currently, Organ Donor Awareness and Hospital Auxiliaries Association of Ontario, Zone 1 Secretary/Treasurer.
I have been a member of several community musical theatre groups since 1989. Some of
the musicals I have appeared in are My Fair Lady,
Carousel, Fiddler on the Roof, Oklahoma, Annie, Guys and Dolls,
Music Man, A Christmas Carol (musical version), and Nunsense II. Following 5 months of
rehearsing for Jesus Christ Superstar I had an emergency
appendectomy four days before the performance began; I sat in the
audience. Since then I have been appeared in Evita, and the Nightingale Chorus Victorian Christmas Concert. In 2004 I worked on Props and Set Change for our amateur theatre's production of Weekend Comedy which was chosen to take part in the WODL Festival. We won a special award for "Most Innovative Set Changes". In December of 2004 I worked backstage on the production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, and in March 2005 I helped backstage with the production of the amasing musical CHICAGO. January of 2006 brought rehearsals for "Annie Warbucks", and we performed April 27 - 29. We had 4 fantastic performances, receiving standing ovations at each of them. We also did school matinees to two sold out audiences. It was a joy to be onstage in a musical again after 6 years.
I belong to the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, and have taken an active part in church life. I
have been a member of my church's two choirs (one contemporary, one
traditional), but at the moment I am taking a break. My young grandson and granddaughter attend church and Sunday School with me, so its important that I be by their side. I am also been a member of the Board of Directors, and was a founding member of HELPMATES, which was a support group for the separated, divorced and widowed.
I became involved with an Organ Donor Awareness group when one of
my friends received a double lung transplant. Our mandate is to
create awareness for the need for organ
donation. Have you signed your organ
donor card???
I have been a member of Beta Sigma Phi
sorority since 1980. Beta
Sigma Phi was founded in 1931 in Abilene, Kansas, in order to
provide women with a social outlet, a cultural forum, and an
opportunity for service. The motto of Beta Sigma Phi is Life,
Learning and Friendship, and it now has a world-wide membership
of over 250,000. My city hosted an Ontario
convention in the year 2001. A great time was had by all!
I have recently taken an avid interest in the area of Congenital
Heart Defects. Having been born with a heart defect, I began searching for
information on the internet, and a whole new world has opened up to me.
Please go to my Heart
Page where you will find an article that I
wrote for a book titled "The Heart of a Mother". You will
