Dragons and more

Dragons have always fascinated me for their beauty and mischievous nature. Not all dragons are bad and it is only ignorance that have made them that way in annals of history. Some of the most charming movie dragons I seen are Walt Disney's Pete's Dragon and the movie Dragonheart that featured Sean Connery as the voice of the irrepressible dragon. The dragon has been enshrined in song and poetry in the middle ages and recently in our time in the fantasy series called Dragonlance and the widely known thread-fighting dragons enshrined in the books about Pern by Anne McCaffrey. Ancient legends and practices have used the dragon in their legendary past and this is most evident in Celtic and Nordic cultures. Many artifacts of the Vikings have used the dragon as a source of strenght and protection on their journeys. The use of the dragon in Irish illuminated is evident and very much used as a result of Ireland's contact with the Vikings. The following are a couple of short little poems about dragons and love. The pictures included on this page are of the stavekirche replica being built in Moorhead, MN at the Heritage Hjemkomst center. It is also home of the Hjemkomst Viking ship. The ship was built by Robert Asp in Hawley, MN and it was sailed from New York City to Bergen, Norway in 1981.

Dragon Wings
Dragon wings beat
Soaring hearts fly
Clear Skies and strong wings
Love never waning
Seeking and probing
Only the heart knows the truth

Grace and power rule the skies
Flame burst and flight
Crown of loyalty
Hands of freindship
Heart of love
Fiery passion e'er present
Only the heart knows the truth

Love
In the sun's dying rays
She awaits her true love
Her heart answers true
He comes to answer her desire
He sees her in te dying rays
Silhouetted and innocent
Their love dances and flies
Soaring the spirit
He her wind
She his breath and spirit
