Charlotte County's First And Finest

This page is going to be my attempt at some sort of honorary page for my Alma Mater...Charlotte High School. This is just getting started so PLEASE give me some time to get it put together. Actually, this is year number two at it. I'm taking some of the information from the actual CHS page...please be sure to check it out. :) This year we are celebrating our 76th year of excellence. This excellence goes far beyond pride or athletics. This includes lifetimes of dedication, hard work, community involvement, spirit and just an overall will to not only survive, but to ALWAYS do the best that we possibly can.

I want to give a brief background of my high school experience and give some insight on just how important Charlotte High School is to me and so many others...

When it was time to decide on what high school I wanted to go to, CHS was not my initial choice. I didn't really know anything about either high school that I had a choice of so I decided that I wanted to go to the one that was closest. At the time this was NOT Charlotte. Somehow I was convinced that going to Charlotte High would be my best idea. Today I thank God that this happened.

From the very first time I ever stepped onto the campus I knew that there was something about this place. I wasn't sure what it was or if it was good or bad. But, I knew that something was there. Nothing that you could see or touch...but you could feel it, you KNEW it was there...you felt it inside. It was, and still is, something that is much more powerful than any one person. As I wandered through my four years at high school I learned what this feeling was and why it existed.

This feeling was years and lifetimes full of pride, full of an absolute will to be the best. Being the best doesn't always mean that you have the highest score or the highest paying job. Being EXCELLENT is simply this...giving your best effort in EVERY situation and being able to go through life with a smile on your face. Happiness and determination make you a winner, it doesn't matter what the score is in the end.

Anyway, through my years we won games, tournaments, championships...that was all great. But, here is the amazing thing that I observed. Somehow, the pride that people have in this school is absolutely overwhelming. I saw students go from hating school, and even life...to loving life and having fun at school. Not that people WANTED to do homework or anything like that, but it was part of the job. The teachers are more than willing to help anybody that needs it at pretty much any cost. Part of the reason that there is so much pride is because Tarpons are a family!!!

When you walk through the hallways to become a Tarpon and as a Tarpon there is an enormous amount of pressure on you to succeed. Going back to that "feeling" that I sensed my first time on campus. I realized what that was very quickly and observed how it play a role in everyday life at school. That feeling was PRIDE, EXCELLENCE and...this is the backbone of it all...TRADITION!!!!!! Being a Tarpons means carrying on all of those years of tradition of being the best. That means that you have to put in more time, more effort, blood, sweat, tears...you're mind and heart HAVE to be there.

I graduated from Charlotte High in 1996. I loved my high school experience but I wish that I could have changed one thing. For all of the upcoming Tarpons...please pay attention to these two words. GET INVOLVED! The more involved you are the more you will enjoy high school. Please continue the tradition of keeping CHS #1.

For the time being it will focus mostly on the Varsity Football team. Hopefully, as time permits, I will broaden the horizons of this dedication page. Until then...please be patient. :) We'll be trying to continue a winning tradition. We just completed our season by losing to the Tampa-Jefferson Dragons in the state semi-final playoff game. It was our 9th consecutive year in the playoffs and our most successful football season ever finishing at 13-1. We also captured the District championship along the way. CONGRATULATIONS TARPONS on a fine season and being a class act, even in defeat. GO TARPONS!!!!!!! Just go here to get directions to any sporting event that the Tarpons might be involved in.

Charlotte High School Alma Mater

Hail to thee, our Alma Mater;
Hail to the Gold and Blue.
Though life's pathways are before us,
We'll remember you.

Through your trials and your triumphs,
Loyal we will be.
When you falter, we'll uphold you,
We'll be true to thee.

Hail to thee, our Alma Mater;
Hail the Gold and Blue.
When we've left you far behind us,
We will think of you.
Charlotte High School Fight Song

Fight the Team across the field,
Show them that we are here.
Set the earth reverberating
With a mighty cheer.

RAH! RAH! RAH!

Hit them hard and see how they fall.
Never let that team get the ball.
Hail, Hail the Gang's all here--
So let's hear it for Charlotte High!

Don't you wish you could be a fish? :)
