Mother, by Judy Olausen. A hilarious, and sometimes unsettling, book of photography in which the artist poses her mother in all kinds of weird, funny, and often poignant positions that point out the world of the 1950's-style submissive housewife. Examples, "Mother as a Coffee Table," "Mother as Road Kill," etc. A great gift for Mother's Day or for your mom at anytime, I think!
Way Back to Paradise, an amazing compilation of lesser-known Broadway songs performed by the AMAZING Audra McDonald. As with all music at Amazon, you can listen to sound clips here, so go check it out!

The Counting Crows' August and Everything After. I had to include this because really it is a must-own for music lovers. It's a masterpiece, and the song "Anna Begins" alone is worth owning the CD for!!!!!!
The Prayer Cycle Honestly, I don't really even know what it is, but it's beautiful! Some amazing music with vocals from all kinds of people, including Alanis Morissette. The link has sound clips you can listen to. I can't stop listening to the first one! I have ordered this CD!!!
She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb (or cassette tape). This book is AMAZING; it was even recommended by Oprah! :-)

This one is a bit of a mystery, but Amazon has listed for pre-order the "Glory of the 80s" import single; we're not sure where it is imported from or what will be on it, but hey, you die-hards (and aren't we all?!) may want to check it out! : I ordered this one, and it turns out to have "Glory," "Famous Blue Raincoat," and "Twinkle" live.

The VH1 Crossroads CD (in the New Tori-Related section) is amazing! You must buy this if you don't have it! Tori's cover of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm On Fire" is probably one of her best covers ever! And the CD is a special enchanced CD. I just stuck it in my roommate's CD-ROM to see what it was like, and it features a video of Tori performing "I'm On Fire." Joy Shtick: Or What Is the Existential Vacuum and Does It Come With Attachments?, by Joy Behar. Have you seen her on ABC's The View? She's really funny, and I've heard her book is even funnier!
Song of Solomon by Toni Morisson (or hardover). Another amazing Oprah book (however, I want you to know I picked both of these out without even knowing they were Oprah Book Club books :-)). Very involving and life-changing!!!!!
No Boundaries-- Benefit for the Kosovar Refugees. This CD is a compilation from many bands and musicians as a benefit for the people effected by all this crap in Kosovo. It includes the previously unreleased "Merman" by Tori Amos. "Merman" is one of Tori's most sought-after b-sides, and this is the first time that it is being officially released! Pearl Jam and Rage Against the Machine are just a few of the other bands involved on this CD! Get it!

Books recommended by Tori
Possessing the Secret of Joy (or hardcover or cassette) by Alice Walker. This is the book that inspired "Cornflake Girl." It's about women mutilating each other, selling each other "to the butcher" as Tori puts it. Be clearer, please? It's about "female castration" in an African tribe, in diary form, and it is extremely moving, thought-provoking, and inspiring. You will NEVER get "Cornflake Girl" the way it's meant to be gotten until you read this book!
Owning Your Own Shadow: Understanding the Dark Side of the Psyche by Robert Johnson. Tori recommended this book (and any other book by Johnson) in E! Online's question-and-answer session. It is a major Tori philosophy, and it is, like Secret of Joy, crucial to understanding the way Tori approaches many of her songs, particularly Boys for Pele-era ("Professional Widow" and "Father Lucifer" come to mind). It's about dancing with the dark side, looking at and embracing our own shadow side. You can't get into Tori, even half-heartedly, without hearing her mention some person or institution who needs to get in touch with his/her/its dark nature.
