(I have listed the major
holiday for the month of January and provided the moon phases
along with their waning and waxing periods)
FEAST OF JANUS: January was the time for the festival of Janus and January is in fact
named for this important Roman God. He was ruler of the god's before the arrival of
Jupiter/Zeus. His 2 faces represented past wisdom and future knowledge. He was the God of
beginnings and endings, journeys, departure and return and success. Being that January is
celebrated as the beginning of the new year it is appropriate that Janus was honored
during this month. New Years is traditionally a time of reflection, looking on all we have
learned over the past year and resolving to change things that are holding us back from
success. It is possible that New Years resolutions got their start from the Feast of
Janus.
(ESBAT: The witches monthly coven meeting, held 13 times each year during the full
moon.)
MILLENIUM 2000: This is a historical moment, last time this happened was 1,000 years
ago. In comparison to the population of the earth, only a few people live to see the
turning of the millenium. This is only the second millenium we have celebrated since we
started counting the years forward from the death of the Christian messiah. I imagine it
will be a time of great power, one we likely won't see again until we have lived another
ten lifetimes so break out your tools and take advantage of this mystical time.
