Computer
programming (C, C++, Pascal): As far as I know, I
grew up with programming. I got my first computer in 1985, a ZX Sinclair
Spectrum 48K. It was fun writing programs for that computer. I programmed
in BASIC then, of course. The Spectrum period last quite long, but later
on I got an AT-286, followed by a 386, and finally a 486. PC's opened my
way to other programming languages, and I ended up programming in Pascal
and C a lot. Later I met somebody, who said I should try PROLOG, so I did.
I like languages, and that is probably the reason why I am trying to write
my own language. The person I admire in this field is Prof. Nicolaus Wirth,
who designed many languages including Pascal and Modula-2. |
Designing
programming languages (interpreters) : Programming
languages always made me curious about a lot of things. Why are there a
lot of languages? What is the difference between them? Which is better,
or more efficient? Why? After a while, I was really in this kind of stuff,
and started to work on different BASIC implementations, and later on my
own language-inventions. One of these is Neureka,
most certainly my best shot at writing a new language. |
Playing
the guitar (check
out my own TAB files) : I started playing the guitar when I went to
high school. I lived in the dorms on the weekdays, and I had nothing else
to do than learning how to play the guitar. I bought a cheap electric guitar
(Elana) from a senior, who played in the school band and wanted to sell
his old guitar. I learnt some chords, and I was ready to do more. A year
after this, I bought an acoustic guitar too. I got so fond of my new acoustic
guitar, that I sold my electric guitar, and only played on the acoustic
one. This was going on for a while, but during my stay in the US I bought
a Fender Stratocaster with all kinds of neat stuff on it, and since
then nothing can sepatate me from it. I started writing songs about 4 years
ago, and since then I mostly write songs instead of copying other people's
stuff. |
Travelling,
meeting interesting people Since I grew up in Europe,
I was part of something extraordinary, namely that I could witness several
cultures while I was growing up, for countries with different cultures
are so close to each other, and on the other hand, I travelled a great
amount with my parents. I have been to most South, Western, and Central-European
countries, as well as Sweden and Norway in the North, Tunesia, and in 15
states in the US. Much of the travelling resulted in a constant demand
for wanting to know more and more about things. |
Learning
languages (yeh, I wish) I soon realized that it is
hard to live without another language. Specially in Europe, where everything
is so different and diverse. Thanks to our educational system, I was objected
to many languages while carrying my studies. I started with Russian, which
was mandatory at the time, later joined by German. By the beginning of
high school I had five years of Russian, and four years of German
experience. Unfortunately, I had to stop taking these two languages, but
I was glad to start two others: Latin and English. Three
years later I managed to take a successful language exam in English (middle
level), and after the senior year that I spent in the US, I obtained the
certificate of English at advanced level. Now I am studying in Sweden,
so I am hoping for a little Swedish to stick on me. |
