I was born in Toronto Ontario on January 25, 1972 to Ed and Caroline. My dad was a cop for the Metropolitan Police Force in innercity Toronto. My mom worked as an office supervisor for Roger's Cable. For the first five years of my life we lived in Scarborough and then when I turned 5 and had to go to school my parents bought a condo and we moved to East York on Victoria Park Avenue (Crescent Town) (this is for those of you from Toronto *L*). We lived and I went to school there for the next five years. When I was 10 my dad decide that being a cop in Toronto was way too stressful so we packed up and moved to:
Melfort Saskatchewan. *sigh* To a farm 20 minutes out of the closest half decent sized "city" and I use the term lightly. Melfort was deemed a city when it reached 5000 people, but it never reached that status in my mind. Here I was used to subways and mass transit. I'm still not sure if Melfort even has taxi's of any kind. Melfort wasn't all bad though. I made many friends there even though my "accent" (yeah right) was a curiousity to my classmates. *G* We lived on a cattle ranch and bred and raised pure-bred Polled Herefords (the red and white ones). I was involved in a 4-H beef club and though you may laugh, I made a lot of money showing my animals. We had prime stock too. Pitchford Brothers Polled Herefords were internationally known to those who were into Herefords.
No we didn't have horses, ours were "modern" cows, only ATV's and snowmobiles for herding these animals...*L* But enough about cattle. We stayed in Melfort until 1987 when I was 15. The farm went belly up with a bunch more from the area, apparently all you folks decided that red meat was bad and switched to pork and chicken....FOOLS! *G* Just kidding. From Melfort we moved to:
Martensville Saskatchewan, a tiny burg outside Saskatoon. It is what is laughingly called a bedroom community. That's because 60% of the population is under 18. The people of Martensville were primarily people who were either just starting their families or had kids already. This, of course, was so cool for me!! Instead of being two miles from the nearest friend, like it was in Melfort, I was only four blocks! I graduated from High School there and then went on to go to Kelsey SIAST in Saskatoon. Kelsey is a technical school, the majority of what it teaches is hands on job skills like welding, auto shop, etc., but it also taught food service courses. That's what I took, Hotel and Restaurant Administration. Two years later and having learned to drink quite well, I had my diploma in hand as was ready to get a "real" job
The only thing is that I was working at all the same kind of jobs I was working before.....I was now an over-educated waitress. So I decided to go back to school and that is where I am now. At the University of Saskatchewan I am a third year Psychology student. My primary interest is Criminal Psych, ideally I'd like to work as a prison guard at the Women's Prison in Kitchener Ontario. I have many members of my family that live there that I would LOVE being close to again. There is my auntie Sis, my second mom, and her son Barry, possibly the coolest guy ever to roam the earth, his "might as well be" wife Gail and their daughter Alisha. My other cousin David is a great guy too and his wife Ashley and his two daughters are simply darling. Now you can see how much I miss them. I graduated university in August and I can't wait to get a real job, one where I don't have to put my fingers in other peoples plates for a living. *shudder* Don't get me wrong, I ENJOY interacting with customers and such, but I just want a job that exercises my brain for once, one that will push my limits.
Well, I guess this is it for now. It's enough in my opinion.....*G* I'll see you at the house! Bye bye!
Ok update May 24, 1998.....
I have moved! Moved to wonderful Edmonton, Alberta! I finally graduated university with my BA in Criminal Psychology and I thought, what the fuck, why not move to Edmonton? I have plenty of online friends here that I can socialize with until I gather a base of work friends to delight my every working minute. So that is exactly what I did! Picked up and moved my son and me out here, lock stock and barrel and took a chance on finding happiness and a good job in a city that I had never seen outside the winter months. It turned out to be a good choice because as soon as I got here I manage to finnagle a great job with AllTemp Sensors being the foreman for the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) department. "WHAT?!?!" you say? Ok, the jist of it is, my department produces temperature sensor probes for the mold injection industry. Mold injection machining is things like Rubbermaid and Tupperware products, to name only two of the more famous brand names. We make the sensors that are instrumental to the production of good quality material based on the proper temperatures being maintained. *nodding* Got that? *L* But of course, due to the O part of my departments name, we are constantly making new things too. Brand new things never invented before. It's actually very exciting and the numbers we put out are phenomenal, on average about 2500 per week. That's alot of probes dammit! We make those probes for the raw materials as it were, it's very hands on and that is what I enjoy most about my job (other than the being the boss thing *G*). I love hands on work, getting dirty and tired and seeing the end of my labors result in perfection, knowing that without my care and attention and well, skill, they would not be there. Very satisfying.
So you are asking yourself, and what has that job got to do with your Crim Psy degree. Nothing. *L* Nothing much at all but I do use my human psych classes alot to resolve conflicts within my group and to achieve the results I need. That and it pays the bills quite nicely. *L* Hey, with over $35 thou in student loans, one does NOT snub their noses at good money made doing something you have found that you love. *G* The great part is that I love my girls (workers), very much, all of them. Most of them are upwards of 15+ years older than me but I have their respect and friendship and that I believe is one of the MOST satisfying parts of my job. They don't treat me like some kid who knows nothing, they treat me with respect and I really appreciate that cause they sure do not have to.
The only downside to all of this is that I am now single. I wasn't when I got here but I am now and I believe that is because the stress of moving away from all that my ex and I know was detrimental to his emotional happiness. But I wish him luck, he's going to need it cause he is not as well equipped for these changes as I am. Oh well... I guess that is it for now.... talk to you soon.
