The Greatest American Historical Event

"The Inspiration Of A Noble Cause Enables Men To Do Things They Did Not Dream Themselves Capable Of Before." -- Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain

In my opinion, the Civil War is America's most triumphant moment and our most tragic event all in one. We have come a long way since the 1860's, yet some things don't change much. The Civil War does now, as it did then: Inspires a great passion in many people. To anyone who has never been to a re-enacment, I strongly suggest you attend one. I proudly serve with the 13th Virginia, Company I, part of the Army of Northern Virginia's 3rd Regiment. Why did I chose to serve with a Confederate Unit you might ask? Many people feel the Confederacy represents slavery, racism, and hate, but I feel the men that took up arms for the South had a far deeper cause. In a way similar to that in which the Colonial Army went to war with Great Britain, numerically a far superior force, during the War for Independence, the people of the South fought against a seemingly unbeatable force, and proved themselves time and time again, battle after battle. Eventually, the overwhelming numbers of the Union combined with better leadership like General Grant and improved tactics like those of General Sherman won the War. The brave men who fought for the Confederacy should rightfully be remembered as brave heroes and not hateful slave holders.

QUOTES

SOUNDS
I created these sound clips from the CD More Songs and Music From Gettysburg. This CD is a good selection for those interested in Civil War music as it includes songs from both the Union and the Confederacy.

Dixie - The song that many instantly associate with the Confederacy.
The Battle Hymn of the Republic - A popular and very familiar Union song.
The Gettysburg Address Jeff Daniels reciting the lines "Four Score and Seven Years Ago" from the most memorable speech in American History.

Links to other sites on the Web

Co. I, 13th VA Official Homepage - This is the Official Site for my unit, the 13th VA, Co. I. The interesting thing about this site is it was designed by a member of the unit who lives in Denmark. Ron is a wonderful guy with a great family. This site is one created by a truly dedicated soldier: one who travels across the Atlantic to preserve history.
Co. I, 13th VA - This is another site for the 13th Virginia, Company I, the unit that I re-enact with. It was created by our Captain. Be sure to check it out! There is some great information about the history of the unit.
The official Gettysburg site - a great place to begin Trip Planning!
Antietam.com - This site has some great pics of last September's Re-enactment!
