Derek (Vocals and Guitar): Hey everyone
out there! My name is Dee. I am a songwriter, guitarist, and
vocalist from Delta IX. First and foremost, I'd like to give props
to all those who have ever ventured down to see us play a live show anywhere.
Your support is what keeps us writing and playing. I was invited
into the band, and introduced to music in general, through my good bud
Z at the end of middle school. We began writing songs in junior high,
but nothing ever came of it until about two years ago, when we began to
take things a wee bit more seriously and got ourselves a handful of gigs.
I write mainly of personal experiences through
the eyes of typical young Americans, like us, which have to deal with society
the way it is. Many people today are rude, self-centered, and judge
others that don't follow the trendy ways of life, whereas I surround myself
with people "who are impressed with peace, knowledge, and generosity"(Z).
Inspiration comes from everywhere and everything. Every day's thoughts,
desires, dreams, and highs eventually make it to the notebook to form the
songs we create. Delta IX has several different styles of playing
that have developed by our personal uniqueness. Some artists that
have influenced me a great deal in the past few years have been the Red
Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Marley, The Smashing Pumpkins, Pink Floyd, Counting
Crows, Sublime, 311, Rage Against the Machine, Phish, Jewel, and the Dave
Matthews Band.
Delta IX is more than just a band playing instruments.
It is an experience to be shared by all those that are willing to listen
to us. We strive, in hopes that some day, the positive vibes and freethinking
that D-IX promotes will leave a long-lasting impression that will resonate
in minds of people everywhere.
*Be safe, love your life, and I’ll meet you for
four twenty!
Jon (Percussion): What's up everyone
(dudes), my name is Jon and I’m the percussionist of the band. I’ve
been drumming for about five years now; I’m mostly self-taught on the set
with a little help from various CDs, the radio, and my good friend Herb.
My biggest influences are Sublime, 311, Dave Matthews, Godsmack, and just
about anything else that’s around now a days, even some country, jazz,
and a little of the oldies. Just about anything that has drums in it will
give me a new idea. My style of drumming is unique in the way that
its just kind of in the background and I’m only loud or doing fills when
it’s called for, not like now a days when its all obnoxious and in your
face.
I currently reside in Florida for 8 months of
the year and I spend my summers and any free time I have in good old Mass.
This is a good thing in the way that I get to grow musically and stylistically
on my own, which in turn, helps to give Delta IX its diverse and different
sound. If you look on this site you'll find a sample of us in two
very different songs off our CD: Random Acts of Highness.
It has always been my dream to be in a band,
and look at me now, I am. This brings to mind the saying I kind of base
my life on, "it’s not enough to have a dream, you must live one.
Make your own destiny. Find a way where there is no way…and dedicate
a lifetime". My advice to anyone out there is, there isn't a dream
that you can’t make into a reality. Don’t ever let anyone tell you
that you can’t or it’s not possible; prove them wrong. Always follow
your heart in anything you do, and it will never mislead you.
Peace and love to all.
Z (Guitar and Vocals): Well, I’m
Z. Here’s the down-low on me. I’m from Webstah.
My musical influences include: Sublime, LBDAS, Pantera (I love Pantera,
CFH yeaaah), Faith No More, Godsmack, Beres Hammond, Barrington Levy, and
deep down I’m also an 85er, 'tallica, GnR, Skid Row, and other 80’s rockers.
About Delta IX, it all started back in 1993-95
when the seed was planted. The band has grown and changed over the
years and so have the members, but it’s all been good. Good times, good
parties, good laughs and cries, good tattoos, good rides through CT ( ear
man, hmmf, can I have a sip of your water?), and good friends, and good
shows. I’d like to make this seed grow into a massive plant with
many large buds that can be enjoyed by all.
Now a shout out to the crowd: yo conz, bo , witness(dave),
tyler and joe wherever you are, digga-ruff ruff, sha da-rip it up!, stop
laughing taran, thanx for buying Jen, hey bob let’s do planet caravan,
Intercore-you guys are great and thanx for making me an extra!, hey gorski,
Dupont, crompton, where’s antos?, that dj- your name? What’s my name?,
thanx to Thompson chix for the parties, a yell to the rest of Thompson
and Putnam, and hey jimmy clark go get another tat, you don’t got enough,
and jud- I’m sorry about your Kramer, hey sara, and Shannon, and the two
nicoles and mama please forgive me for putting you last, but you know what
they say…
Eric (Bass): Hello, I’m Eric, as
you can probably already tell. I’ve been playing bass for about six
years now and am mostly self-taught. I picked up the instrument for
the reason many bassists do: my friends needed someone to. However,
after getting into bass, along with musical performance in general, I have
found this decision to be one of the best I have ever made. I enjoy
being a crucial part of the solid Delta IX backbone; I look to maintain
the foundation of a song so that everyone else in the band has the opportunity
to get a little crazy. I have a pretty straightforward technique
that consists of lots of hammer-ons and pull-offs, along with the random
slide and octave note progression. I would have to say that my biggest
bass-playing influences include: P-Nut from 311, Eric Wilson of Sublime,
of late, Stefan Lessard of DMB, and any other bassist that takes pride
in holding down the low-end.
On a personal note, I am currently a third semester
sophmore at the University of Connecticut in the school of Pre-Pharmacy.
Taking that into consideration, I should be here for another four years;
which will allow me to not have to officially deal with real life for at
least a little while longer. When I’m not playing with the band or
dealing with pointless chemistry problems, I like to spend time hanging out with the Buckley crew at UConn (you guys happ“E” now?).
I also enjoy doing other creative things like small graphic layout projects
and working on this website. Overall, I’m a just a plain ol’ laid
back guy who likes to hang out and have a good time.
Finally, I would like to thank some people that
have either helped or supported Delta IX in some form or another: our families
for lending us basements and vehicles for entire summers; all our friends
and fans who have supported us since our first gig; huge thanks to Mark
and John from Just for Sundae for gigs, equipment, and advice; Jedi-Master
Chris for helping out on RAoH; Nick A. for bailing us out twice; Lloyd
and Captain PJ from Café ABBA; George from Funny Bones; all the
great bands we’ve played alongside with; and finally Springfield from Greenfield
for showing us why incest is illegal.
