Shots from 1999 Rotterdam World Domination Round 1

Sam Dale, the only player from the UK to take part in the tourney, and Stephen Holodisky (CAN) face it off over a copy of "White Dwarf" magazine that Sam brought along. Note the drinks in the background; since it was a pub we were playing in, we had to order something to drink to keep the owner happy. Stephen and Sam don't look too unhappy either; here's what I can see on the original photo: Sam has installed a Pile Driver; Stephen has iced his R&D with Keeper, HQ with Wall of Static and Sleeper, and the smaller SDF with Homewrecker. There is also another SDF with three unrezzed pieces of ice...

Here, Daniel Schneider (left) faces off against Frank Crins. With an expectant mien, Daniel is just revealing a Wall of Crystal. On my original version of the photo, all cards are indeed recognizable:

Frank (Runner) has the following on the table: Raptor, Smarteye, Hammer, Codecracker, Vewy Vewy Quiet, Zetatech Mem Chip, Nasuko Cycle, R&D Interface, Broker, Junkyard BBS, The Springboard, Karl de Veres, and Fall Guy. It also seems that he has scored 4 AP, including the 2 AP of a Political Coup.

Daniel (Corp) has the following: Trashed South African Mining Corp (I guess the leftmost stack is his Archives), 4 ice in front of R&D (unrezzed, Asp, Ice Pick Willie, Scramble), Mazer in front of HQ, and 4 ice protecting his SDF: Crystal Wall (in his right hand), then some kind of sentry ice, a Bolter Cluster, and a Wall of Static. Since Daniel seems to have 5 AP right now (Viral Breeding Ground and Corporate Retreat), the card in his SDF might well be the winning agenda for either side! By the way: The wine bottles are just candlestick holders; the Kilkenny, however, is for real. Note the tiny computer chips Frank is using for bits (and the score sheets in the foreground).

On this nice big round table, Mathias Neuendorf (left) faces Ocke Rörden, of whom we can only see arms and hair. Mathias is wearing the NetRunner t-shirt he's won in another tourney. This is what's visible in Netspace right now:

Ocke (Runner): Emergency Self-Construct (is he ever lucky!), Loony Goon, Skeleton Passkeys, Rigged Investments, Junkyard BBS, Umbrella Policy, Smith's Pawnshop, Back Door to Hilliard, Inside Job (in the trash). Ocke has also already scored an Employee Empowerment.

Mathias (Corp): Night Shift in Archives, Crystal Wall in front of R&D (plus one unrezzed ice), two unrezzed ice protecting HQ, Spinn Public Relations in an SDF with one unrezzed ice, and an unprotected BBS Whispering Campaign. There is another empty SDF with Fire Wall and another piece of ice, which is unrezzed. Mathias has scored a Corporate Retreat, so it's 3:3 at the moment.

Here, it's Sam Dale again (left), this time versus Mathias Neuendorf. Mathias is eyeing Clown and Pile Driver in his hand, while he already has an installed Newsgroup Filter and Shaka (can't complain, really), plus a Short Circuit and a WuTech Mem Chip. Sam, meanwhile, is smirking, since he has installed something in his SDF with two advancement counters on it. As of now, all of his installed cards are unrezzed. Who knows what nasty surprises he has in score? The Efficiency Experts in his Archives doesn't tell us much about his deeper plans.
