Chapter 3: It's Complicated

They found them later, while Paul was giving Lilia a tour backstage, in a tangled heap on the floor. Kevin was sitting nearby, talking into a cell phone, as the rest of them were fighting it out, WWF© style.

"I thought you said they were normal," Lilia commented. Upon hearing a female voice, they jumped up and straightened out their clothes.

"Of course we're normal. But rehearsal's drive us-" AJ was saying when Lilia cut him off.

"-Crazy? I can tell," she said.

"You just think that because wrestling is a man's sport," Paul said. Lilia looked at him, glaring him down until he looked away.

"Can you feel the testosterone in this room?" she commented.

"You think it's bad now, just wait until the car magazine's come out!" Brian said. "So, you and Nick set the whole argument up?"

"Pretty much, yeah. Although he did knock juice into my lap, but that's a forgivable offence. And I am terrified of flying," she replied.

"Really? I don't know what there is to be afraid of, no offence. Flying doesn't phase us anymore, we've done so much of it," Kevin said.

"Well, that was my first time on an air plane, so I was really nervous and stuff. But I survived, so it's all good," she said, smiling over her hair-raising experience.

"So Baby, we're going to go hit the hotel now, okay?" Damon said.

"Well, it was nice meeting you guys, hope to see you again under not-quite-so crazy circumstance," Lilia said, as they started to walk away. The guys waved and called goodbye.

"So Paul, what's up with you? I've been busy telling everyone how my life's been doing and you guys haven't really filled me in on what's up with yours. So spill," Lilia demaded.

"Well, don't know what there is to say, really. Been too busy with the band and stuff," Paul muttered, trying to appear distracted by fiddling with the digital alarm clock on the nightstand next to Lilia's bed.

"That's a lie and you know it. So, who is she?" Lilia asked, smiling. She flopped down on the bed and sighed. They had arrived at the hotel a few minutes ago and after showing Lilia where her room was, her and Paul were hanging out. The other members of Premiere had decided to allow the best friends some time to themselves.

"Well, I can't tell you. I can't really tell anyone. It's just too...not right," Paul said, looking away. Lilia watched her friend and was completely surprised. She was seeing a whole other side to him than he normally let show. She could see the frustration and pain that he was trying desperately to hide.

"You can tell me. In a couple of weeks, you'll be...well, who knows where you'll be, but I'll be home so I won't let your secret slip, I pinkie swear!" Lilia promised, feeling like a child again, having to prompt the object of Paul's affection out of him.

"You never kept a 'pinkie swear' in your entire life. It's just too complicated. Besides, Premiere always comes first, right?" he said, trying to change the subject. Lilia was intrigued. Whoever it was, Paul obviously felt very strongly about them, but something was holding him back.

"I wish that were the case, Paul. You can't always put the band first. Trust me on this one," Lilia said, looking away.

"Shit, Baby. I didn't mean to...I forgot about...shit! I'm sorry," Paul said, putting his arm around her. Lilia bit her trembling lip and stared, almost entranced at the time on the clock. Suddenly a knock on the door startled her.

"Hey guys! A bunch of us are going down to this cool restaurant, amazing food, but it's never busy, which is good. Anyway, we're all going to eat together and hang ou and stuff. Wanna come?" someone asked.

"Baby?" Paul asked, turning to Lilia. She sat up and stretched to see who was standing at the door. It was one of the band members. AJ she though, but she wasn't certain quite yet. She hadn't had enough time to place the names with the faces.

"Sure, why not? Sounds like fun," Lili said. Paul stood outside the door talking to him for a few minutes and Lilia collected her thoughts.

Okay, keep it light, Lilia. Don't drag down their big moment with your personal problems. They all know what they are and they all understand them, but that doesn't mean they won't get sick of you constantly bringing it up. It was a long time ago, so stop thinking about it, she ordered herself. Paul came back in and informed Lilia about the plans.

"We're all meeting in the lobby in twenty minutes. I'm going back to my room to shower and stuff, but I'll stop by and pick you up before I go, so we can go together. I know you'd get lost otherwise," Paul said. Lilia pretended to be offended.

"Okay, that was once, get over it!" she scoffed.

"Lilia, you got lost in a two-story hotel! How is that possible?" he asked.

"It's a hidden talent!" she declared. He shook his head smiling and then she pushed him out the door. After she heard the door click shut, she leaned her head against the wall and sighed.
