Chapter 6

"You have to get ready," Sasha protested.

"Nah, we have lots of time," Nick said, silencing her with a quick kiss. She pushed him away.

"What happens if someone comes in?" she asked.

"Tour ends today. And you know that they all know already. They're just having more fun watching us killing ourselves to hide it from everyone, to have our little moments," he said, wrapping his arms around her.

"Mr. Carter, people are talking about us?" she asked, surprised. She never thought that she'd be a part of people's gossip.

"Yes, and I for one think that we should give them something to talk about," he said, and stopped her groan and the lameness of his line by enfolding her to a passionate kiss.

Which came to an abrupt end as the door swung open and Brian walked in. He did a double take as the couple struggled to regain their composure.

"I'm sorry for interrupting…Uh, Nick, can I talk to you for a few minutes? Sasha, if you'll excuse us," Brian said, swiftly ushering the woman out of the door.

"What's up?" Nick asked as Brian half-closed the door, so as not to slam the door in the bewildered girl's face.

"What exactly is going on with you and Sasha?" Brian asked.

"We got together a few days ago."

"Oh, Nick. What are you doing?" Brian groaned.

"What do you mean? Me and Sasha are totally right for each other. It's perfect," Nick exclaimed.

"But?"

"But? There is no but."

"But she's not Lilia."

"Exactly. I don't want a replica of her. Sasha is completely different from Lilia. Sasha and I are actually compatible. Sasha is a stable person. Sasha doesn't change her mind every three seconds. Sasha is a normal person with out emotional issues. Sasha isn't a moody person who will be loving one second, then bitch at me the next. Sasha isn't full of temper and fire…Sasha is…extraordinarily boring…But she's is so perfect for me, it's like we are meant to be together," Nick protested.

"Do you love her?" Brian asked.

"Not yet. It's too soon to tell."

"Are you sure you're not rebounding?"

"Positive."

"I just don't think you are ready to move on, that's all."

"You have been on my back since the day she left to move on, to forget about her. I finally do and now, I'm suddenly not ready? What am I supposed to do? If you can't tell me, then who can?" Nick exploded.

"But what happens if Lilia comes back? What happens to Sasha then?" Brian asked.

"She's not coming back!" Nick yelled. He turned away from his best friend for a moment, to calm down his temper.

"You don't know that," Brian stated.

"I know she isn't, Brian. I can't spend my entire life waiting for her to come to me. I can't do it anymore. I can't wake up every single day, hoping, praying that this will be it, that this will be the day she comes back to me. I can't do that anymore, because every night, I go to sleep tearing myself apart, wondering why this wasn't it, this wasn't the day. I can't do that to myself anymore!"

"But if she were to come back…"

"I don't know. Don't you think that I've been wondering the same thing? I like being with Sasha. We are great together. She understands me, she respects me. She is stable and honest and-"

"She won't run out on you. But you don't love her."

"It's only been a week, Brian. Why are you doing this? Why can't you just be happy for me?"

"Because this isn't going to work out for you. Does Sasha know that you are still love with Lilia?"

"Maybe I don't love Lilia! Maybe I have finally moved on. Forgotten about her! She is my past. That is where she stays! Sasha is my present. Maybe not my future, who knows? But I don't love Lilia anymore!" Nick exploded. A silence fell over the best friends, as Brian studied Nick and saw that he was lying.

"This is not the same person who stayed by her hospital bed for hours, just watching her sleep, afraid she would slip away from him if he left her. You aren't that same person," Brian stated, shaking his head.

"I am. But you know what gets me through everyday with out her? Knowing that she is safe, that she is alive and hopefully happy. And she was, I saw her that night at Genuine. She was so happy without me. It's my turn," Nick said.

"Why didn't you say anything to her while you were there?"

"I couldn't stand to be rejected. If I was there, and she didn't want me there, I wouldn't have been able to stand it."

"Oh Nick, what are you going to do? You are with one girl, while the one you love, the one that completes you, you're giving up on her?" Brian sighed, frustrated.

"You still love Samantha, yet you are marrying Carrie."

"That's different. Samantha died and Carrie knows about her. Does Sasha know you still love Lilia?"

"I don't even know," Nick sighed.

"Do what you think is right. Just don't hurt Sasha, she's innocent in this," Brian advised.
