Chapter 3
"Hello?"
"Lilia? How are you doing?"
"AJ? Is that you?"
"I haven't heard from you since I was in Toronto, I thought I'd see how you were doing."
"Could be better. A lot better…But anyway, how is your freedom treating you? Miss the tour? How is Sarah?"
"She's beautiful as ever. I still owe you for making me realize that she was the one. And our down time is great."
"So…ah, well, I guess the real reason I-"
"AHA! I knew you had an ulterior motive, McLean!"
"I called to…well, I saw someone who looked like you and-"
"It was me. I was there."
"Did you see him?"
"I didn't have to. How come no one told me that he had moved on?"
"It never came up, I guess. We didn't find out until we closed the tour."
"It was the same day I did. I had to say something to him…about him being there when I was sick…but when I heard him with Brian, talking about how he had moved on, I just couldn't show up again. It just wouldn't have been right."
"Did you speak to Sasha?"
"If she's his new girlfriend, then yes. She was the one that showed me to where he was. She wasn't that helpful."
"You told her who you were, didn't you? That's why."
"Yeah, I guess so."
"Well, I just needed to know if that was you. Keep smiling, Lilia. Things will turn up sooner or later."
"Thanks AJ. You won't tell him that I was there, will you?"
"No, I won't."
"Goodbye AJ. Thanks for calling."
"Goodbye, Lilia."

"She was there? Are you sure about that?" Kevin asked, outraged.
"I phoned her. She said that she was. Then I checked in with not only Paul, but security, and she was there. They cleared her. Paul said that she had finally decided to face Nick after leaving, because there was something that she had to tell him, and she had finally worked up enough courage to do it," AJ informed the stunned group assembled before him.
"Did she see him? I haven't heard anything about it," Brian said.
"No. Apparently she met up with Sasha. Sasha, when I asked her about it, lied to me."
"Are you sure, AJ? Maybe she was mistaken, or didn't know who Lilia was," Howie suggested.
"I'm positive. I saw the two of them, remember? I asked her about it and she denied the whole thing with some weak story about a fan."
"What do we do? Do we tell him?" Brian asked.
"Tell who what guys?" asked Nick, entering arm in arm with Sasha. They were all meeting for a casual business lunch to discuss future plans, but business was forgotten when AJ informed the rest about the situation with Sasha, Lilia and Nick.
"Maybe you should ask Sasha that, Nick," AJ said.
"What are you talking about?" she demanded, immediately defensive.
"Any messages for Nick? Surprise visitors you forgot to tell him about?" Kevin asked.
"No, why?"
"That's not what we've been hearing," Brian interjected.
"Would someone please tell me what's going on here? Why are you all ganging up on my girlfriend?" Nick demanded.
"You should tell him, Sasha. He has a right to know," Brian pleaded, ignoring Nick. Frustrated, she turned and bolted out the door, out onto the street. Nick followed her out, bewildered. There was an atmosphere of foreboding around this. He didn't like whatever it was that was going to happen.
"What's going on?"
"Lilia came to see you," Sasha answered. Nick was shocked. Beyond shocked. It took him a few minutes to recover. As soon as he did, he pulled Sasha aside from the bustling walkers on the sidewalk, and sat her down.
"Why didn't you tell me?" he demanded.
"She to tell you something. But she left, suddenly. I showed her where you were, but you were talking with Brian and she over heard something and ran out," Sasha said.
"When was she here?" Nick demanded, fearful. If she had heard part of that conversation…
"A week or so ago. Before the last show," she answered quietly.
"Tell me all about it, Sasha," he said coolly.
"I was just sitting there and she came up to me and asked me where you were. I thought she was fan! So I told her I couldn't tell her that," she said and paused.
"That was the fan…the fan looking for Kevin," Nick realized. Sasha looked away and continued.
"Then she told me who she was. So I showed her the room where you were talking to Brian. I really did! And then she heard you talking to Brian and you sounded mad and upset and she heard it and she ran out," she said, her pitch rising with each sentence.
"Which part? Do you remember?" he asked desperately. Please God, do not let her have heard that one part…
"When you said that you had moved on. That you…didn't love her anymore."
"Shit!" Sasha finally looked up and met his face, contorted with anxiety and stress, surprise and worry. And hope.
"It's over between us, isn't it?" she asked, her hopes for the two of them dashed.
"Sasha, you've known since the day I met you how much I've wanted to talk to her. How she had to come to me. That I need to know why she left, that it's been haunting me for so long, hurting me. And you lied to me about it. You knew all of this, and you lied to me. You kept in from me by lying. Anyone who would keep me from knowing that I had my chance to know, that I could have known, isn't meant to be with me," he said, his words resounding with anger and hurt.
"I didn't want to loose you," she cried.
"Sasha…" he said, unable to find the words he was searching for.
"She's not worth it, you know. She's not worth ruining this. I don't want to loose you, not to her. She doesn't appreciate you, she just left you. Don't do this. I just didn't want to loose you," she cried, hysterical. She was clinging to him, desperate to try to make him understand, to keep him. She was pathetic, and Nick felt sick looking at what he once thought was a beautiful face, but now that he saw the truth, it disgusted him. She didn't care about his feelings. She was shallow and selfish, wanting to keep him at any cost, even if it was over something that could haunt him for the rest of his life. He pushed her off of himself, and backed away.
"I just didn't want to loose you," she repeated.
"You just did," he answered.

"What is going on?" Brian asked.
"Just wait until he comes back in. Then you can find out," Carrie said logically.
"They've been out there for quite awhile. I wonder what he's saying to her," Sarah said.
"This is so frustrating. I hope he gives it to her," Howie said.
"Aren't you supposed to be the 'sweet' one?" AJ asked.
"Not when they lie like that." They began to argue about what Sasha's fate should be, but were silenced when Nick came back through the door.
"Nick! What happened?" they all jumped on him.
"It's over between us. She knew…she knew how important it was to me and she lied about it," he said in disbelief. Carrie patted him sympathetically on the back, sorry that he had been taken in by her.
"I knew there was more to that girl. She seemed to perfect," AJ said. Sarah glared at him, and he realized that that was probably not the wisest thing to say at that moment.
"So, what happens now? With Lilia, I mean?" Brian asked.
"I go after her," Nick responded.
