'N Sync and thoughts on music
'N Sync Stuff
- Fave 'N Sync Songs: "For the Girl Who Has Everything" and everything else on the album (I love it, the harmonies are just amazing!); on Home for Christmas it's
"Under My Tree" and "O Holy Night"
- Fave 'N Sync Video: "Tearin' Up My Heart" ("You Drive Me Crazy" a close second, it's hilarious!)
- Fave 'N Syncer(s): J.C. Chasez (if you really want to know, Lance and Justin are tied as my 2nd fave)
- Why J.C.? (short essay)
I like all the guys in 'N Sync. They all have shown to me time and time
again that they have great singing talent. So when people ask me why I like J.C. the best of
all, there are a lot of reasons. First and foremost is his voice. It's hard to explain, he just
puts a jazzy spin on everything he sings on the 'N Sync album, and he just has an amazing vocal
range. All I could utter after the 'N Sync concert at the MCI Center on March 19th, 1999 was
"wow." If you need evidence, listen to "For the Girl Who Has Everything," "Sailing," or "Everything
I Own." He's very dedicated to his music, and sometimes a little too dedicated (as such, he's
nicknamed "Mr. Serious").

I can relate, as anyone who knows me well enough knows I
can be focused (extremely so). He is from Maryland, and so am I (though we're from different
counties, darn!) and I'm sure proud of that! I'm also pretty impressed that the first album he
bought was "ZoSo" (and if you don't know what that is, well, too bad, you must
have missed it - *grin*), because I have loved that album since I was 10 or so, when my brother
introduced me to it.
I won't deny that I find him quite handsome. (All five of them are.) But I keep in mind that
they're in the business because of the music. I am constantly reminded that many 'N Sync fans
are fans mainly because they are "babes" and "hotties" and I can't be more offended and appalled
by this. THEY ARE SINGERS not models. Please, let's stick to the music. Thank you. And what great music it is!
- Interests: Music, duh! (And if don't keep up with music, well, I don't know
what's wrong with you. Get with the program, you're missing out on some great stuff! I've been in sort
of a rut lately, I've completely bypassed listening to popular music out right now, listening to primarily my
CDs and the local oldies station. The other day I turned on the
radio and practically choked when I heard the music playing on the local new music station, I'd never heard it before and it sounded completely
foreign. That's one thing about the music business - it's a fast mover and it's always changing.
- Of course I'd be pretty boring if music was the ONLY thing in my life. If you haven't noticed,
I am a junior undergraduate biology major at the University of Maryland, as a cell, molecular biology,
and genetics specialization. (Say that five times fast!) It sounds hefty but I have to say that I
love what I'm studying. This semester my patience has been tried by biochemistry I but I have
absolutely loved my cell biology class. I don't consider studying for that class a chore by any means, I equate
it to eating candy. (I know, I'm completely corrupted, aren't I?) I am a strong believer in doing
what makes YOU happy. Never lose sight of YOUR goals and never try to take on something only because
it makes someone else happy. It doesn't matter how many awards you win, how much money you make,
or how many cars you drive. All the materialistic things don't mean a thing unless you're at peace
with yourself, and you feel you've made a difference to the world around you.
Okay, back to the music...*smile*
Music - why I love it!
Music is such an important part of my life. When I was 8, I became a huge Beatles fan, and
I'm still very much a fan. I became a Paul McCartney fanatic during my freshman year (Paul is my favorite Beatle).
For a while, all I listened to was oldies (i.e. music of the '60s). When
the Beatles Anthology came out I was as happy as a clam. Or so I thought. But little did I know that my life was going
to change soon after with a completely different musical movement.
I have always had an open mind about music. Listing the CDs I currently own (and want to buy) will reveal
that my interests in music are pretty eclectic. One day I'll be in the mood for Michael Crawford (the best Phantom
probably ever to play on Broadway, of which I sadly missed out), or maybe I'llbe in the mood
for some Led Zeppelin head-banging. I'll listen to almost anything once (as long as it doesn't
involve or incite gratuitous use of expletives, violence or sex). You can usually find me listening to
Z104 - the local "new music station" in the Nation's Capital, or
Mix 107.3 - a station that mixes '80s with '90s,
and I absolutely adore Oldies 100 - an awesome '60s music station. (I win stuff
all the time from their station - to date I have won three CDs and a movie.)
One of my interesting qualities is that generally speaking if you turn on the radio and I hear either 1) the first couple wordless
bars of music at the beginning of a song or 2) the wordless bridge of a song, I can figure out what it is. Just this afternoon I was
able to pick out Elton John's "Your Song" just on the basis of the beginning piano notes.
Also, I think I know all the words to the 'N Sync CD (I should, I listen to it enough). Trying to learn all the
lyrics to "Home For Christmas" but it's an uphill climb. I already knew the lyrics to "O Holy Night"
and I think I'm getting close for "Under My Tree" and "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays" but I'm still
working on it.
- Fave Love Songs: "For the Girl Who Has Everything" ('N Sync); "A Groovy Kind of Love" (Phil Collins); "Nobody Knows It But Me" (The Tony Rich Project); "I Want It That Way" (Backstreet Boys);
"Here, There and Everywhere" (the Beatles); "Heaven" (Nu Flavor) - a highly underrated
song; "Angel of Mine" (Monica); "More Than Words" (Extreme); "No More Lonely Nights" (Paul McCartney); "I Do" (98 Degrees); "Music of My Heart" ('N Sync and Gloria Estefan)
- Fave Songs of All Time (non 'N Sync): "Houses of the Holy," "Stairway to Heaven," "When the Levee Breaks," too many to mention (Led Zeppelin);
"I Saw Her Standing There," too many to mention (the Beatles); "As Long As You Love Me,"
"That's What She Said" (Backstreet Boys); "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (Deep Blue Something); "Missing You" (Tom Waits); "Love is a Battlefield" (Pat Benatar); "Back 2 Good" (Matchbox 20);
"Right Here Waiting," "Now and Forever," "Hold On to the Night" (Richard Marx); much much more that won't fit here!
Other Interests: building webpages (gee could you tell?); computer games - I am a strong
proponent for less graphic intensive and more intellectually intensive programs, and I yearn
for the days of the monochrome Apple II; writing and reading stories and poetry; genetics and molecular biology - these
field are simply amazing; logic puzzles;
following horoscopes and personality typing (I'm an INTP, what are you? go here to find out); e-mailing with e-pals;
checking out the clubs at Yahoo! (I founded a Backstreet Boys club for older fans, and I belong to a bunch of other BSB and 'N Sync Yahoo clubs); watching music
videos (I wish I could do this more often!)
