Great Big Sea, a four member band from Newfoundland, Canada includes Darrell Power, Alan Doyle, Séan McCann and Bob Hallett. The bands musical inspiration comes from the seafaring songs passed down by their ancestors and they successfully blend that style with their own original compositions. Their live shows are energetic, enthusiastic excursions where one can witness gutsy, harmonious vocals, reworked traditional songs and unexpected cover tunes. Their albums in Canada have gone multi-platinum. Great Big Sea was presented with these multi-platinum awards at the East Coast Music Awards, held in Halifax, February 1,1998. Great Big Sea has won several honors in Canada, including the East Coast Music Awards "Entertainer of the Year". The band has won their fifth consecutive "Entertainer of the Year"award during the East Coast Music Awards 2000 in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Their music is an irresistible infectious mix of Celtic folk, traditional sea chanteys, and ballads, dramatic and tragic tales of love and life.
They are signed with Warner Music Canada . Albums to their credit are their self titled debut album, Up , Play and Turn. They are signed with Sire Records in the US and released their first ever album in the US in June of 98, titled "Rant and Roar ". They are signed with Cooking Vinyl in the UK.
