SAN DIEGO 7/8/98 "A Memoirs Montage"
Josie Kreuzer is headed back on the road, this time with a laptop! She called from San Diego to ask me to assist her by building this new page which will be a slice of Rockabilly Americana. Josie's touring in July with Hot Rod Lincoln who played on her first cd, "Hot Rod Girl", you may recall. They're headed for Texas and Arizona. Look for Josie in the midwest this August with a new band too!

EL PASO 7/11/98 Josie called from a hotel where she was having some technical difficulties getting online. She didn't say too much, the guys were pounding on her door, all packed to hit the road. She did say she'll be staying with friends in Dallas, so maybe we'll hear from her then. Stay tuned...--RR

LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ
July 10, 1998 , Friday
After a not so long drive from San Diego with Johnny, Buzz and Dave (the Hot Rod Lincoln boys) and conversation which included catching bugs, growing Sea Monkeys, and sending up rockets with mice in tow, we landed in the scorching desert resort of Lake Havasu last night to kick off our tour. As I found out later the entire town was built in 1963. A few years ago the London Bridge from the Thames River in England was shipped over here stone by stone and restructured here in Lake Havasu. We drove past it on the way to"Shooters" (the venue) which turned out to be a little honky tonk-of-a-bar adjacent to another little bar called the "Pig and Swig" (with a big sign stating "dollar beers") which seemed a little bit more enticing to us as we drove into the gravel parking lot in the 100+ heat.
Hot Rod Lincoln did a very rockin' opening set, followed by my set, and then HRL played again to close the evening. The crowd was an appreciative one and danced through the night--they weren't my usual type of audience of young rockabilly afficianados, but mostly an older set--a mixture of bikers and country-bar-goer types who were just cutting the rug and having a good time. Sometime's it's a great eye-opener to play for main stream America. A lot of them don't know what rockabilly is and to me it's a challenge. As the evening progressed, an odd biker guy named Buck kept accosting me all night with strange and even stranger conversation. I found out later that he got thrown out of the bar for sitting on the owner's Harley.
Now we are driving through the 114 degree Mojave desert looking for Jackalopes and listening to Louis Jordan on our way to Texas. Till next time. Signing out,
Your rock boppin gal,
Josie....
EL PASO, TEXAS
Monday, July 13, 1998
Yahoo! I'm back in Texas. I love the Lonestar state. On Friday we made it to the border town of El Paso and spent the night at a little motel. When we awoke we decided to make a trek across the border to Juarez. The pavement was sizzling as we walked across the bridge into Mexico and paid our 25 cents to cross the border. None of us had ever been to Juarez, but because we are all from San Diego, we had to make our comparisons to Tijuana. I liked Juarez better because it wasn't as touristy or tawdry, but it was Mexico, and Mexico is a very poor country so there were still a lot of similarities. We walked around in the heat for a couple of hours, made some cool purchases--I got some castenets, a bottle of Tequila and a mother-of-pearl handled switchblade.(a gal on the road has to protect herself ya know). Johnny got a Turkey Platter belt buckle and a switchblade too. Buzz got steel tips for his boots with horseshoes on them and Johnny bought him some "Horse Shit" cigarettes (yes, that is the brand name-- Buzz liked the cigarettes so much that he's actually smoking them!), and Dave got a sunburn & a headache.
I must've sweat 3 gallons of agua while I was there.
When we crossed back over the border we went on a hunt for Rosa's Cantina to get some grub---the one mentioned in Marty Robin's song "El Paso", but no one could direct us to it so we just hopped in the van and started driving for San Antonio.
We drove 10 hours straight and made it to San Antonio at around 5:30 AM, slept till about 3pm and went to the club (The Laboratory Brewery) for load-in and soundcheck.
The show in San Antonio was excellent---packed. The crowd was great and some people from Austin even drove down to see us. Everyone was swing dancing and the place was still full at closing time. After the show we stopped at the Super K-Mart for some groceries. Johnny hi-jacked the handicap motor vehicle cart thing and raced through the aisles. 20 minutes later I think he was spotted in the cereal aisle throwing a box of Nutri-Grain bars into his basket. I had a ball in San Antonio.
We checked out of the hotel at noon and went to The Alamo. Man alive, talk about a piece of history. First erected in 1718 as a Mission, it later became a symbol of Texas independence. During the Texas-Mexican Independence War in 1836, it was defended and lost to the last Texan. I even got to see Davey Crocketts shaving razor, rifle and vest. Pretty darn cool. Afterwards we headed across the street for a bite to eat at The GM Steakhouse for some Texas meat. Eat Beef!
Now we are headed to one of my favorite towns-- Austin....I'll be back after a short intermission..Later Alligator.

"Outside Austin City Limits" The weather was news today. As I read Josie's following report, I heard on t.v. it's been dangerously hot in Dallas (over 100 for 20 days), I'm glad to hear Josie found herself a cool lake!--RR
FT. WORTH, TX.
7/20/98
Howdy, still in Texas...right now in Fort Worth. The past few days have been extremely fun. On Saturday we played the Continental Club in Austin with The Forbidden Pigs & Kim Lenz. Hot Rod Lincoln kicked off the night and according to Diane who works the back door, the place started packing up much earlier than usual. Luckily they advertised the times of each band's set so people would know when to arrive. I went on next--I love playing the Continental--it's one of my favorite places to play. The crowd was very welcoming. The whole show was great---I was disappointed that I didn't get to see the Derailers who were playing at The Broken Spoke, and I did think about sneaking out, but I decided to stay and I'm glad I did! Kim put on a really good set---her band is really tight and her new guitarist has a great sound. I felt bad cause she broke about 3 strings---I can really relate to that being a master string breaker myself, but she held everything together and put on a terrific performance---Go girl! The Forbidden Pigs also rocked the house and sounded as solid as Alcatraz. They were pooped from a long drive from their last gig, but I couldn't tell except for the fact that Billy didn't get as rambunctious with his bass. His new guitarist Jeff wailed with awesome tone and I was impressed with his style.
Last night we played at The Old Crow in Dallas. We drove straight to the club from Austin, so I had to change in the beer storage room and iron my dress on a butcher's block. (yep there's a lot of glamour on the road!). I had a really good time,in spite of the horrible sound system. But it was a great crowd! Rob from Rob's Chop shop was there ---I was supposed to stop by to get my hair cut by him today but we didn't wake up until about 1 pm and just didn't have the time to drive all the way into Dallas. When I return in August I definitely will make it to his shop. Kim and her Jaguars showed up too and she and her guitarist Nick took us to a greasy spoon afterwards where we chowed down the diner's last remnants of bisquits & gravy. I didn't get to sleep until 5:30 am!
Tonight we play at the Pig & Whistle in Fort Worth. Gotta go get ready!

12/16/98 "A Letter from Josie"
Hi gang!
Thank you dearly for your patience with this list. I've been a bit busy
lately with the holidays and preparation for a new CD! My band and I are
going into the studio this Sunday to record the first session of my new CD
"As Is". About 13 new originals. It should be out by early Feb. or early
March for my next major tour. Speaking of touring, I've also been busy
securing a new booking agency----better known as AFT (American Frontier
Touring) also Wayne Hancock's booking agent. This will make it a lot
easier on me for touring, so, if anyone is interested in me visiting your
town, please let your
local clubs know to contact Rick Brocamontes at AFT in Chicago at
847-562-1500
