Hi, and welcome to my silverchair site. silverchair is my favorite band, I used to be an obsessive teeny-bopper, but then I grew up. Now, I just appreciate their music and the diversity they bring to the music industry. I didn't want this to be a typical yeah-they-rock-they're-so-hot page, I wanted it to have a little more depth. That means that I won't be putting on lyrics or tabs or anything (not right now, anyways), because you can find those on any site on the 'net. I will try to have things that I think are a bit more original than that. For example, in my silverchair pics section, I took all of those myself and they will not be found on any other site except for mine. I have worked pretty hard on this page, I don't know if it shows or not, but please show your appreciation by signing my guestbook. I have lots of cool stuff at this site, so be sure to check it all out. I shall be expanding slowly and presenting new ideas, like my Neon Ballroom Dancers, and my awards that I will give to deserving sites. Please enjoy!
Here's the obligatory info on the members of silverchair. Pick your favorite, or all three!
silverchair are a three-piece rock band from Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. Daniel Johns plays guitar, does vocals, and writes all the lyrics and most of the music. Ben Gillies plays drums and percussion and writes some of the music. Chris Joannou plays bass guitar. They have so far released 3 albums to date, the first being 1995's "Frogstomp", the second being 1997's "Freakshow", and the third being 1999's "Neon Ballroom". "Frogstomp" had no meaning when it was named, it was just a cool sounding name. The name "Freakshow" had a bit more depth to it, meaning the status of the guys and their place in life as to how being rock stars has made them feel. (Did that make sense? :) "Neon Ballroom" was so named because Daniel thought it well described two major genres of music: neon, representing the 90's, and ballroom, representing the old styles of music. The guys were current staples at the canadian Edgefest tours for the past two years. I believe they've finished up touring and are now going to go into hiding for another year or so.
I have reviewed "Neon Ballroom", so click here to read what I think of the new album. I'll review the other two albums, plus soundtracks with silverchair, later.
I have some EXCLUSIVE pictures of silverchair from an interview that was on MuchMusic, Canada's music station, and other performances and specials. Check them out by clicking here!

Dammit, when it comes to silverchair, it sucks to be me. Just 'cuz I live in Canada, I never get to see silverchair music videos. But FINALLY I saw 'Miss You Love', cuz it was on 'On Demand' (a viewer-request hour on MuchMusic). It was quite an odd video, though not as fucked-up as 'Ana's Song' was. It's got the guys in a movie theatre along with other people, and they're watching a romance or something, and Daniel, and sometimes other people, are lip-synching along to the song. The funniest part is when Ben is singing away, and the camera moves back, you see Chris staring at him, kinda smiling. Ben looks over at him and they both burst out laughing. Well, I thought it was funny. But yeah, so I guess what I'm saying is that it's an odd video, but not bad. Not bad at all.
silverchair has released the video for "Ana's Song (Open Fire). Have you seen it yet? To be honest, it's not a totally great video. It suits the song somewhat, but there is probably 7 seconds total of Ben and Chris. There's more images of the girl in the video than of them. What is up with that? Ben and Chris are part of silverchair, same as Daniel. The video is odd. It's of Daniel singing the song, and alternates between images of him and some girl who's standing over a sink crying and washing her hands. She scrubs her hands so hard they eventually turn red and bloody. Daniel is being pushed along in a wheelchair by someone. The wheelchair stops, and the person walks out in front of Daniel... it's Daniel. He goes and picks up a guitar and starts playing the song. Ben and Chris are in the background. The girl and wheelchair-Daniel are both suddenly on rocks by the ocean, with the waves crashing, then the song ends with Daniel staring at the camera. Not too much thought behind this video, I must say.
Daniel Johns, guitar and vocalist of silverchair, has recently admitted to having the serious eating disorder called anorexia. Some people think that males don't have eating disorders, which is a bad stereotype. Daniel was diagnosed with this after isolating himself for 6 months while he wrote music and lyrics for the upcoming album. He said that sometimes it got so bad that all he would eat would be 2 or 3 pieces of fruit a day, and that at his worst, his weight was around 105 pounds. I, as a silverchair fan, am proud of Daniel for being able to admit to this. He seems like a wonderful person, he writes wonderful music and lyrics, and he doesn't deserve this. No one does. I stand behind Daniel in support for his getting help. He will get better. His fans are all standing behind him. I support Daniel Johns. Good luck, Daniel, from the bottom of my heart.
