PSI COM TO JANE'S ADDICTION
The story starts when Perry forced himself into the band Psi Com, in a way, taking it over or he responded to an ad in the "Recycler" from the band looking for a drummer, and though he didn't have any experience the rest of the band was so impressed with his vocals, they fired their current singer, and gave Perry the head of the band. Psi Com's future came towards an end when half the band, Vince Duran and Aaron Sherer, became Hare Krishnas. Perry wasn't into the ways of Lord Krishna, mostly the "no sex" part. By the time the album came out, the band had pretty much split up. Bassist Kelly Wheeler quit and was replaced by Eric Avery. Perry Farrell and Eric Avery turned Psi Com's last days into the beginning of Jane's Addiction.
THE BEGINNING OF JANE'S ADDICTION
When Psi Com ended, the only ones left were Perry and Eric, who had joined the band just shortly before it was dissolved. Eric and Perry decided to form a new band. The two play as a duo for a short time. Perry has said Eric came in and played this one riff for 45min. while he sang over top and that did it. Soon after, in December of 1985, Perry and Eric add a guitarist and drummer. Apparently there were many come and go guitar players, the only one who apparently made any kind of reasonable impression was a friend of Eric's named Chris Brinkman. However, he didn't make the cut. In January of 1986, a guy simply known as Ed replaced Chris before their first show. (For more on Ed, Chris, and JA's first drummer Matt, got the JA Member Timeline)
Steven Perkins was brought in through Eric. Eric's sister had introduced Steve to Eric. After Steve joined, the search for a good guitarist began. Steve mentioned Dave Navarro. The two played in the speed-metal band Dizastre together, and Eric also knew Dave through his sister. When the four got together, Jane's Addiction's magic was born. Year after year Jane's Addiction was touring and giving their fans everything they wanted. Tour after tour Jane's Addiction became more known by all. After the release of their third album, "Ritual De Lo Habitual", the band had many legal problems because of the cover artwork. The band ended the controversy by the release of the "Amended" version. Soon after, Perry decided to create an outdoors festival which featured many bands, called Lollapalooza. Jane's Addiction did play at the first Lolla Tour, but unfortunately they did not play any others. After releasing three albums and the creation of Lollapalooza, the band had decided that it was time for them to all go their seperate ways and played their last show September 26th, 1991 at the Aloha Tower, Honolulu, Hawaii.
