Melbourne Punk
There are just so many Punk bands in Melbourne, its one of the main reasons I love it here so much.
Everytime you turn around theres another band playing the local pubs and stuff....every week you're guaranteed to find a band playing.
One of the biggest things to improve over the past few years is the All Ages scene. Back when i started going to shows in '92 there wasn't much of a scene, but now there are kids everywhere getting into the music and supporting their local bands, it's great to see!
Bands To Check Out:
This band started way back in '95 as a three piece, but formed with a new lineup in April '96.
They play '70s influenced ska/old skool punk (UK Subs, The Clash etc..)
In 1995 they released a self funded cd "New Inventions", "A Voice In The Crowd" in 1996 and "No Room For Apathy" was released in 1997.
All their cd's and merchandise is real cheap and affordable for anyone to buy.
Hip Hop influenced Punk.
They have a self titled EP out and have just released a new one called "Kid Indestructable".
They're getting heaps of air play and have a couple of clips being played on TV. I even saw them on MTV doing an interview! (hehe they're doomed now!)
This is a really great band, who have a huge All Ages following.
They are in the middle of a line up change at the moment, with Adam gone they have played a few gigs with a guy called Brad. Whether this is permanent or not we'll find out in the future.
The Blindspot
Outer Eastern melodic punk band. They were a four piece band untill they added another guitarist in 1998 who added a much fuller sound to the band.
Three guys from Japan who met while studying in Perth, and then decided to trek across the Nullibor to the great city of Melbourne!
They've been living above the Public Bar and playing gigs there to finace their life.
They've released to Ep's "Blue Sky" and their latest "Dance In Chicago/Gigantor"
For Amusement Only
These guys sound heaps like Blink 182 and MXPX and have just as much energy.
These guys have just had a line up change after Ben leaving the band. They are a punk institution here!
They've taken their inspiration from All and The Decendants, to produce some damn good music.
