Chapter 8: A Night Of Surprizes

"Hey Ike, you almost ready?" Taylor asked, waiting patiently for his brother to stop staring at the phone, and get ready to go to the movies already.

"Why hasn't she called yet? I told her the movie stared at 7:15 and it's already 7."

"Maybe she forgot, or maybe her father wouldn't let her go so she just decided not to call." Taylor suggested.

"Come on you two! I don't want to be late!" Zac yelled. He was a little bit anxious, seeing as how this was his forst date and all. "If she doesn't call within the next 20 seconds we're leaving woth out you!" Zac demanded. Just then the phone rang Ike just stood there, staring at the ringing phone.

"Do you think it's her?" Ike asked.

"Ike I don't care if it's her or Cindy Crawford, let's go!" Zac was getting more and more impatient with his brothers.

"Well answer it beofre she hangs up!" Tay said, starting to get annoyed with the sound of the ringing.

"Hello?" Ike sauid in his best voice.

"Hey Ike, it's Lynn. Listen, I can go to the movies but I have to be home right after it's over."

"OK great! We'll pick you up in a few minutes."

"OK, see you then."

"OK, bye."

"So, is she coming?" Zac asked.

"Yeah, she is."

"So what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Zac demanded.

"Guys would you mind taking Avery with you to the movies?" Mrs.Hanson asked just as they were walking out the door.

"No way! She can't come!" Zac said nervously. He hadn't told his parents that he was going with Caitlin, and he knew that Avery would squeel.

"And why not?" Mrs.Hanson gave Zac a stern look.

"Umm.. well...."

"Cause the movie starts in less than 10 minutes and she's not ready." Taylor interupted, saving his brother from giving his mother a long explaination that was totally un-realistic.

"Yeah, that's it!" Zac said trying to cover up.

"Well, she's ready. She's got her shoes on already and everything."

"Ok, fine. Let's go." Tay said.

"But.. but.." Zac looked at Tay wide eyed.

"It's ok. I got everything covered." Tay whispered.

As they pulled into Caitlin's driveway, Zac started to sweat.

"OK, ehre's the deal." Tay whispered, making sure that Avie couldn't hear him. "I'll take Avie to whatever movie is playing next to the one your going to, and Ike is going to take Lynn somewhere for dinner, so you'll be all alone with Caitlin."

"Will that work? Won't she ask questions?"

"I don't know. Just tell her we changed our plans."

Zac look out the window to see Caitlin walking towards the van. "I hope this works" Zac thought.

They drove from Caitlin's house to Lynn's house, to the movies in less than 6 minutes.

"Geez Ike. Could you drive a little faster I don't think I got the full effect of what a jet taking off feels like yet." Taylor said sarcasticly.

"Ha-ha, very funny. Now get out."

"Aren't we going with them?" Lunn asked confussed.

"There's been a change in plans." Ike was taking her somwplace where they could talk. He wanted to find out the truth and he wanted to fine it out tonight.

"OK, you guys are on your won." Tay said, taking Avery's hand and walking away.

"He's not coming either?" Caitlin asked.

"Ahh, well, he was, but just as we were leaving the house, Mom asked us to take Avery with us and ahh... she's too young to see Deep Impact, so Tay's taking her to see, umm.... " he looked around. "The new Barny movie!" Zac explained, quite proud that he thought of such a good excuse on his own.

"Barney? You mean Tay just volenteered(sp?) to take her to a Barney movie? I thought he hated Barney." Caitlin questioned.

"Well, ah, you see..." Zac didn't know what to say. He had been cought in a lie. He had no idea where Tay was taking his little sister. "He um, didn't excatly volenteer to take her, she begged him to. Yeah... She really loves her barney!" Zac smiled, hoping she bought it.

"Oh." was all she said. Zac couldn't ell if she was happy to be alone with him or if she was mad cause Tay wasn't there.

"Oh my God! Maybe she has a thing for Tay! Maybe she wanted to go to the movies cause Tay was coming too." Zac's train of thought was interupted by a man's voice.

"Ticket please." The usher asked. Zac handed over his and Caitlin's ticketes and went inside to the dark movie theater.

"So where are you taking me?" Lynn asked. "It seems like we've been driving forever."

"It's only been 25 minutes. We'll be there in just a few more miles."

"Gos Ike, we're way outside of Tulsa's city limits. We're heading to the middle of nowhere."

"Exactly." Ike smiled.

"What are you up to?"

"You'll see, just a few more minutes."

"Taaaaaaaay... I wanna see the movie!" Avery wined.

"Avery, your too young to see that movie."

"So?"

"So?! They wouldn't let you in. You way too young. Now come on. I want to see if they have that new video game in Toys-R-Us."

While Taylor looked at the video games, he gave Avery premission to go look at the Barbies. Avery skipped through the store, happy as a clam. She thought that maybe her big brother would buy her something to make up for not taking her to the movies. So, she went to the Barbies, but a stand of giant sized taoys cought her eye from accross the store.

"OK Avery, I'm ready" Tay said, walking into the world of pink, aka the barbie section. "Avery?" He walked up and down each isle 3 times, still no Avery.

"Oh God. What if she took off somewhere? She dosen't know her way around. She'll get lost. I should never have left her alone!"Tay thought.

"Excuse me, miss?" Taylor said politly. "I can't seem to find my little sister."

"Well, what does she look like?" The staore clerk turned around to face Tay.

"Well, um..." Tay was mezmorized by this girl. He couldn't even get the words out.

"She um... has blonde hair, and umm... she's 6."

"OK, what's her name?" the store clerk said sweetly.

"Umm... Taylor. No! Wait! Avery, her name is Avery, I'm Taylor." Tay blushed.

"OK, I'll call her on the PA system." She walked over to the cash and made the annoucment. "Would Avery Hanson please come to cash #2."

"Wait a minute. I didn't tell her my last name." Taylor thought. "Oh great, she knows who I am and now the whole store going to know I'm here."

"Oh my gosh. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said your last name. Now you'll probably get mobbed or something, thanks to me." she said.

"That's ok." Tay blushed again.

"Wow, it's like she could read my mind." Tay thought. Tay's trance was broken when he heard a huge thud and a bunch of laughs. "What the?.." He and the store clerk ran over to where all the commotion was coming from. As they got closer, the laughing got louder. There on the floor was Avery, sitting in a pile of Tickle Me Elmo's that she somehow manged to knock over.

"Avery!" Taylor exclaimed. "I'm so sorry. I'll help you pick up them up miss."

"That's ok. It happens all the time. And please, call me Hope." she smiled. "Hey, you better get out of here, people know your here, remember?"

"Yeah, I guess your right. Sorry about the mess."

"That's ok!"

"Bye Hope."

"Bye Taylor."

As they were leaving, people started gathering around the ouside of the store. "They must have heard the annoucment through that whole mall." Tay thought.

"Come on Avery, we gotta get out of here."

As they walked through the security thing at the front of the store, it started beeping. "OH God. I forgot about the video game!" He put it in his pocket when he couldn't find Avie and he just forgot about it.

"Sur, I'll need to search you." The security gard said. Tay looked out to see a bunch of people staring. "This is just great! They think I'm a theif!"
