About a week had passed and Brittney had barely talked to Tay. When she did she didn't know what to say, and she felt kind of out of place. She had her mind on other things, like starting a second semester at a new school. Tomorrow was her first day at Tulsa High and already she had butterflies in her stomach. Her aunt had let her buy a new outfit to wear and even some new shoes, but somehow she still didn't feel like going.
She had been lying on her bed for almost a half and hour now, just sort of staring at the ceiling. "I really need to get out of this room." she muttered. She ran down stairs two at a time.
"Hey aunt karen, can you take me to the mall?"
"Well sure hon, it's nice to finally see you out of your room."
"Finally, somewhere to go, something to see, but who with?" she thought to herself.
She opened the heavy grey door to the mall. There was enough people there. It seemed like everyone wa in their own little group.
"Ok, where do you want to go first?" Karen asked.
"No offence aunt Karen, but I kind of wanted to go by myself. Is that ok?"
"Well I don't know, I mean, do you even know anyone here?"
"That's the whole point, I want to... ah..... meet people, yeah that's it!" she lied.
"Well, I suppose. Meet me at this door in 2 hours. I'll be waiting."
" On my own." she thought. " It's about time."
She went from store to store wondering around like a lost puppy. There were so many people her age but but not one alone. All of them were in their own little group, and to tell the truth, some of them were a little scary looking. She had even seen Billt but thank goodness he never saw her! She ended up wandering into the record store. Brittney picked up the Jewel CD, but then put it back down. She looked at several including Janet Jackson, Bush, and the Dave Matthews Band, but something else had caught her eye. She picked it up and looked at the at the picture on the front. The orange background made their faces stand out. "Hanson" in big bold letters stood out abouve the paper brothers. She fliped it over and eyed the songs on the back. Definetly not her kind of music, but she was curious and with a 20 dollar bill wearing a whole in her pocket, she decided to buy it. She walked up to the cash and passed the CD to the girl.
"Hanson, yeah, great bunch of boys!" she said smileing.
"Oh yeah." brittney replied.
She walked out of the record store after buying the CD. "Let's see," she thought. "I've got 20 minutes. I better try to find that door, where in the world is it in this mall?"
Brittney was down by JC Penny when she noticed that she was going to wrong way. "Oh stupid, stupid, stupid! I've got 10 minutes, come on, where's that door?" She felt a tap on her sholder, and turned around to see Zac standing behind her. "Oh hey." she said surprized.
"Are you ok?" he asked. "Your a bit jumpy."
"No Zac, I'm fine, just a bit lost, that's all."
"Hey, I'll show ya where to go. Where are ya headed?" Zac questioned.
"Well, I'm trying to find the door that's by the candy shop place and it dissapeared somewhere."
"I'll help you!" He said in a super hero kind of voice, but quickly his voice changed when he murmmered, " But first I have to go get my brother.
" Oh gee, how wonderful!" Brittney thought. "Just what I need."
Before she knew it, Taylor was standing beside her.
"Hey." he started.
"Hey" she ended. And that was it.
They all walked towards the door in silence and not one word from either of them except for Zac, who had never stopped talking about some stupid show that was being taken off the air, and how mad he was. But neither of them was paying attention when they reached the door. Tay started a conversation(sp?) .
"So, how have you been?" he asked.
"Ok, I guess. I start school tomorrow."
"Oh yeah? Josh goes to Tulsa High. I know you'll make a lot of friends cause......" he drifted off.
"Yeah, well....." she didn't really know what to say.
Zac saved them by jumping in. "What cha buy?" he asked.
" Anything but that!" she thought. She didn't want to tell them that she bought their CD. What would they think of her?
"Ahh, it's just a CD." she replied.
"What CD?" Tay asked.
" You know, ahhhh, just a CD." Brittney relpied practicly shaking.
"Yeah, but what CD?" Zac asked impatiently.
Brittney just stood there, not know what to say. She was hoping her aunt would just hurry up and come and get her already. Before she had a chance to tell them what it was, Zac grabbed the bag from her hand.
"ZAC!!" she screamed.
"You bought our CD?" he aske dina surprized, confused, kind of way."Yay, a fan!" he continued while he ran and hugged her.
Tay was just looking at her, surprized of what Zac had pulled out of her bag. He was speechless.
"Ah, well, I hadn't heard much of your music, except for your singles and I wanted to hear what you guys sounded like. Is that so bad?" she said spitting words out of her mouth barely even knowing what she was saying.
"No, I mean, it's just music, that just happens to be us. No big deal." Tay replied.
"I guess. " Zac agreed.
"Hello Taylor and Zachary." A voice called from behind Brittney. "Britt, are you ready to go?"
"Ah, yeah," she replied taking the CD out of Zac's hands. "Bye." she said.
"Bye." they said.
"Nice young boys." her aunt started when they got in the car.
"Yeah" Brittney said more confused then ever.
