Chapter 9: At the Corner at 6 O'Clock

Brittney threw down her bookbag Wednsday afternoon and went into the kitchen. She opened the fridge door to satisfy her stomach with some sort of ediable(sp?) peice of food.

"Got milk?" she wondered as she picked up an empty carton. "Guess not." she answered to her own question. Aunt Karen was still at work and wouldn't be home until 5 o'clock, so brittney just decided on a bottle of spring water and a cookie that her aunt made. She went upstairs to her room.

"This place is a mess. I should clean it up a bit, I guess. But first, I need music. Let's see..." she filed through her CD's. An unopened Hanson CD caught her eye. "OK, let's see what these guys are really like." she told herself outloud.

She opened it up and popped the orange CD in to her CD player. Thinking Of You ran through the house while Brittney started picking up cothes off of her floor.

All of a sudden the phone rang. Brittney turned down the music and answered it.

"Hello?"

"Hi" answered the voice. "Brittney?"

"Oh, hi Tay"

"Hi. Josh said that he'll meet you at the coner at 6 and then Ike will take us all. Is that ok?"

"That's great."

"When you meet Josh, he'll tell you the rest. I guess that's all I really now."

"Ok."

"Hey, what music are you listening to?"

Brittney shut off her CD player as fast as she could, and turned on her tv to MTV. Aqua's new song, Doctor Jones was on.

"Ahhh, no, it's ahhh... the TV, and ahh.... MTV. It's ahh... Aqua's new song. Ahh... Doctor..Doctor...what?

"Doctor Jones?" Tay suggested.

"Ahh... yeah, doctor Jones, that's it!" she sighed.

"Yeah, that songs not that bad." Taylor said.

"Umm... yeah. I like it!" Brittney replied, happy to save herself. "So, the movie starts at 7?"

"Yeah, maybe we could go to McDonalds before or after or something."

"Umm.. yeah, that would be great!" Brittney agreed

"Well, I guess I'll see you at 6? An Amercian Warewholf In Paris looks great!" Tay said.

"Yep. Well, see ya."

"Yeah, bye."

"Bye"

Brittney hung up the phone and threw herself onto her bed, and started to stare up at her ceiling in deep thought.

"Hey Josh!"

"Hey Britt!"

They were both standing at the stop sign at the coner of South East Ave.

"Ike and Tay are picking us up here." Josh explained.

"Yeah, tay called me after school."

"Oh. How are things with you guys anyway?"

"You know what? I don't even know! So I'm just going to forget about it and try to be friends, at least for tonight."

"Yeah, I guess. You know, Taylor's a great guy. Just give hima chance. He likes you, as far as I know. But, I mean, I've known Tay for a long time, and I just met you, and you seem so sweet, and ... I just... I mean, I know he likes you and I can see you like him in one way or another. I don't think anyone understands this whole situation and I just wish that you guys whould work things out."

"Well, it's easy for you to say, but when your in the ordeal that I'm in and your so confused.... I just don't know how to even talk to him. I dodge every conversation we have, and I don't know why. Josh, things aren't the way Taylor and I that I wish they were. I don't even know who he really is and I'm scared. I really don't know how else to explain it."

"Just give him a chance, you'll see tay for himself and see what a great guy he really is."

"Yeah, maybe."

"Hold on, it's 6:15, where's Tay?"

"See I told you! He's just..."

"Listen he probably just got something mixed up or something. Let's just go down to his house and see where they are."

At 6:20, they didn't answer the door. All the lights were off and no one was home.

"See!" Brittney complained.

"Where is he? There's got to be some kind of explaination. he's never like this! Maybe he's just..." Josh tried to explain.

"Always and excuse! Yeah, right!" Brittney sighed.
