Amanda was sitting on the swing hugging her knees to her chest when she heard someone clear his throat. "I thought you went inside Nick," she said not even looking up.
"He did," Brian replied as he sat down.
She looked over at him and glared, "what do you want?"
Brian sighed, "I want to try and be friends Amanda, I’m sick of fighting with you."
He looked over at her for a response but she was staring absentmindedly at the lake across Nick’s backyard. "Dang she looks pretty in the moonlight," he thought, "wait, what am I saying, I hate her. Don’t I?"
Suddenly Amanda stood up and started walking towards the water. Confused Brian got up and followed her. AJ, Howie, and Kevin were watching from the window as Brian trailed after Amanda.
"Nah, she’d deck him and you know it." Howie replied.
Kevin shook his head, "Nope Howie this time I have to agree with AJ, I think he’ll do it."
"Hey guys what up?" Nick asked as he and Sahar joined them at the window.
"We’re betting money on if Brian will kiss Amanda," AJ answered pointing to their retreating figures.
Sahar giggled and Nick crinkled his nose, "why would he do that?" Everyone stared at Nick indisbelief, even Sahar. "What?" Nick asked defensively.
"Baby are you blind, Brian is so in Love with Amanda he can’t see straight," Sahar told him tenderly.
Nick shook his head no, "he is not," he replied with a hint of doubt in his voice as he watched Brian follow Amanda.
"Amanda lets go back, it’s getting windy," Brian called out as Amanda reached the water’s edge.
Amanda turned and looked at him, "Brian," she called.
He walked towards her, "what?" S
he looked at her feet, "I’m sorry," she whispered.
"what?" he asked trying to hear over the increasingly loud wind.
She brought her head up slowly, "I said I’m sorry. I never gave you a fair chance and I’m sorry. I was jealous that Nick found a new friend and I never gave you an opportunity to prove that you were a good guy." Brian’s jaw nearly hit the ground and he was speechless, the girl he knew that had more pride than anyone else, was apologizing to him. Amanda looked at him expectantly for a reply and when all he could do was stare, she shrugged her shoulders and turned away. "OH well, I tried, no big lose." She thought, "No biglose, ha, don’t even kid yourself," the little voice told her.
"Amanda wait," Brian finally spoke stepping forward and grabbing her arm.
He turned her towards him and swallowed hard, "I’m sorry too, I wasn’tvery nice to you either." She nodded and started to walk away, but Brian still held her arm. Memories of what happened in the closetflashed in Amanda’s mind as she stared into his piercing blue eyes. She took a deep breath as Brian took another step towards her.
